    Alder Lodge is near all facilities including Bus Station, Restaurants, Library, Museum , Leisure Centre, Community Centre.   With lovely walks around the coast of Lerwick Alder Lodge is an excellent location for touring Shetland. Alder Lodge Guest House is a large Victorian stone building originally built in 1834 as the Union Bank Shetland's first ever bank..

    Ideally situated in the centre of Lerwick, Alder Lodge is within a short walk of all amenities including cafe's and restaurants and local pubs where you can hear traditional music. There is a nine hole pitch and putt golf course just minutes away with spectacular views as you play. The bus station, community centre, museum, library and flower park (which has a bowling green) are only minutes walk from the front door. In 2012 Lerwick will have a new Cinema and music venue which will be open for business and will be a great asset for entertainment. The town centre and harbour are just down the lane from Alder Lodge where you can find the harbour and esplanade, as well as our main street, cafes, bars, shops, banks, post office and much more. Take a stroll along the busy harbour and see boats and yachts from all round the world. You can take daily boat trips around the Island of Bressay and bird reserve of Noss from the small boat harbour.

    Visitor attractions such as the Shetland Museum, the Up Helly Aa Exhibition, the Town Hall, Fort Charlotte, Clickimin Leisure Centre and Clickimin Broch, can all be found within walking distance.

    For visitor who are tracing there family tree then the Shetland Family History Society office is located 100 yards away on the Hillhead.

    Being situated in the heart of Lerwick Alder Lodge is a perfect location as a base to explore Shetland's exciting scenery beautiful beaches, stunning cliffs sheltered coves and voes. Our abundant wildlife can be found wherever you go. Seals, otters and whales can all be seen on coastal walks in the summer months if you are in the right place at the right time. Millions of seabirds breed here every summer. Everyone should see a puffin and a Shetland Pony before they leave.

    For guests coming to the Alder Lodge from outside Lerwick, please see the directions below:- for people coming from the South see the directions "By Air" and for people coming into Lerwick from either the West or North, please see directions "By Ferry".

    Public Transport Directions

    From the nearest information centre:- On foot: At door of Tourist Information Centre, turn immediately left into Mounthooly Street and go to the top of the lane. At the top of the lane turn to your right and we are 4th along on the right hand side (the large house
    with the white porch).

    By Car: Head from the Tourist Office around the Market Cross to the junction on the Esplanade. Turn right and head up the hill until you get to a small roundabout and turn right. Head along this road for approximately 200 yards where you will find us on the right hand side just before the junction with the Hillhead.

    Getting there by aeroplane:- Follow the signs to Lerwick from the Airport. When arriving in Lerwick head straight into the town centre. Go straight through 2 roundabouts and head into the centre. You will pass the Hospital on your left hand side and the health centre on your right hand side. Go straight on to the top of the next hill where you will see a large house on the left hand side with a white porch and a green sign saying Alder Lodge Guest House.

    Getting there by ferry:- Driving off the ferry and out of the compound, turn left taking the road into Lerwick. Go straight through the first two small roundabouts and then take the 4th junction on the right. Drive up King Harald Street passing the Community Centre on your right until you get to a crossroads, turn left here and go up the hill. At the top of the hill you will see a large house on the left hand side with a white porch and a green sign saying Alder Lodge Guest House.
