All rooms are spacious and have en-suite facilities, TV's with Freeview and DVD players, tea and coffee facilities, soft seating, fridges and hairdryers. All rooms receive free WIFI Internet access. Breakfast is freshly cooked with a good range of local produce. Try our locally smoked Haddock with poached eggs or the traditional scottish breakfast. We can cater for special diets if we have prior notice. We have a library of DVD's available for guest's use and a book library where guests can borrow or exchange books.

Ideally situated in the centre of Lerwick, Alder Lodge is within a short walk of all amenities including cafe's and restaurants and local pubs where you can hear traditional music. There is a nine hole pitch and putt golf course just minutes away with spectacular views as you play. The bus station, community centre, museum, library and flower park (which has a bowling green) are only minutes walk from the front door. In 2012 Lerwick will have a new Cinema and music venue which will be open for business and will be a great asset for entertainment. The town centre and harbour are just down the lane from Alder Lodge where you can find the harbour and esplanade, as well as our main street, cafes, bars, shops, banks, post office and much more. Take a stroll along the busy harbour and see boats and yachts from all round the world. You can take daily boat trips around the Island of Bressay and bird reserve of Noss from the small boat harbour.

Visitor attractions such as the Shetland Museum, the Up Helly Aa Exhibition, the Town Hall, Fort Charlotte, Clickimin Leisure Centre and Clickimin Broch, can all be found within walking distance.

For visitor who are tracing there family tree then the Shetland Family History Society office is located 100 yards away on the Hillhead.

Guests arriving in Shetland can either hire a car at the airport, take a taxi or take the bus to Lerwick. Just tell the bus driver your staying at the Alder Lodge and he will drop you at our door. If you are arriving by ferry we are 20 minutes walk from the terminal.

Being situated in the heart of Lerwick Alder Lodge is a perfect location as a base to explore Shetland's exciting scenery beautiful beaches, stunning cliffs sheltered coves and voes. Our abundant wildlife can be found whereever you go. Seals, otters and whales can all be seen on coastal walks in the summer months if you are in the right place at the right time. Millions of seabirds breed here every summer. Everyone should see a puffin and a Shetland Pony before they leave.

Shetland is renowned for is its friendly welcome and you can be certain of a very warm one at Alder Lodge.
