Attractions include RRS Discovery (Captain Scott's ship), and the Verdant Works which weaves the tale of jute with the life and work of old Dundee. There is modern technology at Dundee Science Centre - Sensation, Mills Observatory, art and culture at The McManus, Dundee's Art Gallery and Museum or Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA). The city has plenty of shopping, cinemas, ice skating, a leisure pool and an abundance of restaurants and bars. You may also bump into the locals, Desperate Dan or Dennis the Menace!
Being near the coast it is not far from terrific beaches and harbours with the north to Broughty Ferry, Carnoustie, Lunan Bay, Arbroath and Montrose and heading south to St Andrews, Anstruther and Elie with lots of idyllic little hidden beaches in between.
Local golf courses within 5 miles include Downfield, Camperdown and Caird Park. Piperdam, Strathmore, the famous Old Course at St Andrews and Carnoustie and many more are within easy reach. There is also an impressive choice of country parks as well as the Dundee Botanic Gardens, on gently sloping land overlooking the banks of the River Tay.
There are lots of exciting places of history to explore. Glamis Castle, famed as the childhood home of the Queen Mother is a must for visitors, Broughty Castle, House of Dunn and Scone Palace. Dunnottar, Stirling and Edinburgh Castles are little bit further but worth the distance.
A bit of history on the doorstep is the Dovecot and Earthhouse in Tealing with many pictish stones locally including Aberlemno Sculptured Stones.
Only 2 miles takes you to the popular Auchterhouse Country Sports which features clay pigeon shooting, off road driving, quad biking, archery and more including tank driving!
There are many local cycle routes and walks from short strolls, either on the coast or in the hills, to more challenging walks over steeper and more rugged terrain. In winter months sledging is at your backdoor, skiing at Glenshee is only 32 miles away.
