Ballone Castle Home Farm is set in farmland in the coastal village of Rockfield near Portmahomack in the Highlands of Scotland. Adjacent to Ballone Castle a property which ANTA Architect Lachie Stewart renovated in 1998 and now the home of Annie and Lachie, and with far reaching views of the surrounding countryside and access to the sandy beach at Rockfield, Ballone Castle Home Farm is the perfect location for a Highland getaway.
Recently upgraded by Annie and Lachie Stewart of ANTA, this farmhouse has been renovated using their own products all designed by Annie and created in Scotland at the factory in Fearn. ANTA is known for its unconventional take on traditional tartan and its insistence on natural materials and fine craftsmanship. Many of these exciting products have been used to decorate the house including tweed fabric on the walls and handmade stoneware in the kitchen.
The cottage comprises 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sitting room, kitchen diner, living room, downstairs cloakroom, games room and conservatory. Externally there is off street parking and a large enclosed private garden.
Portmahomack itself is a picturesque fishing village with the usual village amenities, post office and store, local pub, village hall and the much acclaimed http://www.the-oystercatcher.co.uk/home.htm restaurant which serves locally caught fish beautifully cooked.
The Royal Dornoch Golf course www.royaldornoch.com which is currently ranked amongst the top 20 courses in the world is only 20 minutes drive away. There are many other courses nearby such as Portmahomack, Tain, Brora, Strathpeffer and Fortrose.
You can also indulge in local whisky and take a tour of Glenmorangie, Balblair and Dalmore which are all within a 15 minute drive.
In the summer months there is a ferry from Nigg to Cromarty where you can explore the Black Isle and hopefully spot some bottlenose dolphins and seals.
There is plentiful trout and salmon fishing during the season www.alnessfishing.com as well as other country pursuits such as grouse shooting and bird watching www.fairburnestate.co.uk
For shopping there is the ANTA factory shop nearby in Fearn which houses a café selling homemade soup and cakes. Further afield in Tain there is the well known Browns Art Gallery and Glass-storm and in Dornoch there are several antique shops, bookshop and an excellent ironmongers store. A trip to Dornoch is not complete without stopping off at www.luigidornoch.com for a bite to eat.
