Approximately 8 minutes by car - Travel along the Whitesands up to the traffic lights towards Buccleuch Street. Turn right onto Buccleuch Street. Follow signs for a701 (Glasgow, Edinburgh). Continue through Heathhall and Locharbriggs towards Amisfield but do not turn left for village at Celtic Memorial Cross statue. Instead, immediately after the Cross take first right turning signposted for Tinwald and Torthorwald and immediately over the small bridge (less than 2 metres) turn sharp left up lane to Barr Farmhouse. We are at the top of the lane.
Getting there by railway:- From Lockerbie Station by car
Approximately 15 miles and 27 minutes - Start at Station Road. Take the second exit at the roundabout onto the B723 on the main street and turn right at the traffic signals signposted for Lochmaben / Dumfries. At the next roundabout take the second exit onto the A709. At the next roundabout take the third exit onto the A75 signposted for Stranraer. At the third roundabout take the first exit for the A701. Follow signs for A701 (Glasgow, Edinburgh). Continue through Heathhall and Locharbriggs towards Amisfield but do not turn left for village at Celtic Memorial Cross statue. Instead, immediately after the Cross take first right turning signposted for Tinwald and Torthorwald and immediately over the small bridge.
Getting there by aeroplane:- Approximately 1.5 hours away from Glasgow Airport- Exit the M74 at Junction 15 signed A701 Dumfries / Beattock / Moffat. At first roundabout take the exit onto the A701 for Dumfries, and then at second roundabout you take the first left to Dumfries. We are approximately 13 miles along the A701. Continue along A701 for about 12 miles and you will see signs for Amisfield. DO NOT take any of the turnings for Amisfield. Immediately, after a white painted house on left side of road turn left over an old, small bridge, as signposted for 'Tinwald and Torthorwald.' Take a SHARP left as soon as you have crossed the above mentioned bridge. This will take you up our lane - and at the top you will arrive at Barr Farmhouse.
Getting there by ferry:- From Stranraer Ferry Port
Approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes away by car - start out on Cairnryan Road. Turn right onto the A77 signposted for Portpatrick / Dumfries. At crossroads turn left onto the A75 signposted for Dumfries. Continue to follow the A75 for Dumfries until you see signs for A701 Glasgow / Edinburgh. . Follow signs for A701 (Glasgow, Edinburgh). Continue through Heathhall and Locharbriggs towards Amisfield but do not turn left for village at Celtic Memorial Cross statue.
