Brae Cottage B&B

Blacklee Brae, Bonchester Bridge, Hawick, Roxburghshire, TD9 9TD

Relax, explore the Scottish Borders and enjoy a stay in Bonchester Bridge, near Hawick almost midway between Edinburgh and Newcastle. We welcome walkers, cyclist, motorcyclists and everybody who wants to experience the beauty of the borders.

Our house was built in 2011 and is a Norwegian designed timber framed wooden building but with a Scottish twist. It is very light and airy.

The downstairs double room has a large en-suite shower room this is at the front of the house. This room is mobility friendly as it has a wooden floor, the rug can be taken up if necessary and it is all on one level with the shower room. The upstairs double room is at the rear of the house and it has it's own private bathroom which has both a bath and shower in it. If needed a single bed can be put in the bedroom.

Guests have the use of the ground floor living room which looks out over our woodland, again this is all on a level with the downstairs bedroom, and from the decking there are views of Ruberslaw. We supply binnoculars so that guests can see at close range the many birds and wildlife. A telescope is also available  for star gazers in this light pollution free area.

In the bedrooms there is a good selection of literature about local events, local activities and local places to visit. Throughout the house there are bookcases full of books for guests to enjoy.

In the morning we offer a full Scottish breakfast or a plate of Scottish Smoked Salmon with scrambled eggs or Kedgeree or a continental. Our homemade bread makes delicious toast. We are very happy to supply supper to our guests but we do require notice. We have no licence so if you want a drink please bring your own. At present the pub in the village is up for sale so its future has to be uncertain.

There is secure accommodation for cycles and motorbikes can be safely parked off road. We are happy to provide packed lunches for our visitors. The rivers Tweed and Teviot are a short distance away and for partners who don't fish there is the Borders Book Trail and the newly established Borders Textile Trail. We are well placed for the nurmerous golf course in the Scottish Borders.

    Well behaved dogs are welcome.

Here at Brae Cottage we offer a warm welcome and comfortable accommodation with the emphasis on peace and relaxation.

With our own water supply, our solar tubes, the air source heat pump, the wood burning stove, extensive vegetable and fruit gardens and our own very free range chickens we try to show what sustainable living is all about.
