Go on treat yourself to the best kept secret in the UK, the part most folks miss as they whistle up the M6 going north past Gretna, so don't, this time turn to the West instead, and end up in glorious Galloway! We hope to see you soon and to help you have a very pleasant and happy stay here.
 

Galloway is so beautiful, it's Scotland in miniature, with lochs, mountains, forests, and mile upon mile of sea-shore, unspoilt rolling countryside, the magical Galloway cattle and the Belties, ancient Castles and monasteries, and wonderful scenery.

Add to that the clean fresh air and a very warm welcome, you just cannot beat this place.

Watch Ospreys, swans, sheep, wintering geese, cattle, owls and deer, and that's just from our home. Our conservatory dining room has the best view in town overlooking the RSPB reserve at the Crook of Baldoon. While you dine you can enjoy looking at our garden, see the coast, the ancient medieval harbour at the bottom of our road, and see the Bladnoch river winding its way towards the village and distillery of Bladnoch just a mile away. The field behind us runs down to the nature reserve of Wigtown bay and the wetlands below us.

Local activities include golf, fishing, mountain biking at the 7 stanes sites at Kirroughtree, Glentrool and Mabie Forest, walking routes abound. You could tour the many quiet roads and forest tracks or explore the ancient history of the area - from stone circles and burial chambers to the Covenanters and the martyrs, and the introduction of Christianity to Scotland by St. Ninian at Whithorn priory visitor centre. Castles and mottes and ancient hill forts are dotted around the region too.

We're on a triangular region of land known locally as the Machars, (The word is derived from the Gaelic word Machair meaning low lying or level land, known as "links" on the east coast of Scotland. Although there are no high peaks in the Machars, it is not flat and would best be described as undulating or rolling land) which is surrounded on two sides by coast, with coastal walking and excellent opportunities for the sea fishermen.

We're also sandwiched between Salmon and Trout rivers to the north and south of us, for the course fishermen. There are numerous fishing Lochs near us too.

The excellent Bladnoch whisky distillery is just a mile away.

The Wigtown & Bladnoch Golf club is a mere two minute walk from our drive. Many other excellent courses are within a short drive of here.

Wigtown is Scotland's National Book Town and boasts a dozen or more bookshops and related businesses.

We have several restaurants and dining places near us, in town or in our neighbouring towns of Newton Stewart and Bladnoch. All tastes are provided for.

The ferry port in Cairnryan is just 30 minutes away and Ireland is just an hour from there, you could take a day trip.
