Road Directions

From Stromness TIC turn right onto Ferry Road and take the 1st exit onto North End Road. Turn left to stay on North End Road then turn right onto Back Road. Turn 1st right at the roundabout onto Outertown Road. Take 2nd left opposite red post box and as road goes round to left, turn right and Burra View is the last house on the right.

Getting there by railway:- Scot Rail to Thurso train station, where a connecting bus should take you to the Northlink Ferry terminal at Scrabster.

Getting there by aeroplane:- Fly from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Inverness airports to Kirkwall airport. There is car hire available at the airport or a regular bus service that takes you to the bus station in Kirkwall. There are regular busses to Stromness. The taxi office is situated opposite the Ferry Inn Pub which you will see directly ahead of you once you reach the bus stop in Stromness. If you are driving, follow the road signs for the A965 to Stromness. Once you reach the roundabout take the 3rd exit on to North End Road, turn left to stay on North End Road then turn right onto Back Road. Turn 1st right at the roundabout onto Outertown Road. Take 2nd left opposite red post box and as road goes round to left, turn right and Burra View is the last house on the right.

Getting there by ferry:- Northlink Ferries have regular service between Aberdeen, Orkney and Shetland. Sail from Aberdeen to Kirkwalll, then take the A 965 to Stromness and follow the directions above to reach Burra View. Alternatively take the Northlink Ferry from Scrabster to Stromness.

Pentland Ferries operate the Pentalina from Gills Bay in Caithness, to St Margarets Hope, South Ronaldsay. This is a 45 minute drive from Stromness but takes you across the famous Churchill Barriers. Follow the signs for the A961 to Kirkwall, then the A965 to Stromness. Refer to directions above to reach Burra View.
