Cairness House

Overview

Built in 1791-97 by the architect James Playfair, the house was occupied by the Gordon family until 1938, and in recent years has once again become a very elegant and comfortable family home. Cairness offers old-fashioned country house bed and breakfast accommodation for travellers seeking a rarefied retreat. Cairness House has recently been refurbished to the highest standards and now offers sumptuously appointed bedrooms, beautifully decorated and with period features, with either en suite or private bathrooms. The superb antique four poster beds and large roll top baths will make you feel transported to a bygone era, where luxury and calm are a must. The rooms have spectacular views over the Buchan countryside, with its deep golden sunsets.

Modern comforts have not been forgotten either. All bedrooms have complimentary tea and coffee facilities, wi-fi access, and thermostatically controlled heating.

Breakfast is served in the vast Georgian kitchen where an open-grate range is often used for cooking. The house is full of wonderful original features and oozes with character - its interiors have featured in many magazines including Country Life and House & Garden.

Cairness House is situated in a quiet rural setting about 2 miles from the coastal village of St. Comb's, between the fishing ports of Fraserburgh and Peterhead. The house is a 45-minute drive from both Aberdeen city centre and Aberdeen airport, with access to the main A90 trunk road only 2 miles away. With the house due north of Aberdeen, the AECC is very easily reached on the north side of Aberdeen without the drama of having to cross the city during the rush hour.

Within this beautiful corner of Buchan there are miles of unspoilt and quiet sandy beaches, a number of renowned golf courses, and the RSPB nature reserve at the Loch of Strathbeg, which attracts 20% of the world's population of pink-footed geese - all within a 15-minute drive.
