Overview

•40 minutes from the M74(M6) and en route to west coast ferries and Ireland
•2 hours from both Edinburgh and Glasgow, Scotland
•1 hour from Prestwick International Airport
•Secure bike lock-up with hose wash

An inherited family home that has been updated without losing the original character of the house. Set in 200 acres of farmland this is an unusual house in Scotland as it has had no additions and still has the washhouses, coachyard and doocot at the back. The garden still has potential and the hens, cats, dogs, pet lambs, donkeys and pony enjoy life here. Bedrooms have super comfortable beds and are light and sunny with wonderful views. Bathrooms are warm and delicious. You are welcome to sit in the drawing room by the log fire where you will find a variety of good books and games.

Relax by the fire; read, (books galore) walk or be active - you can even play tennis in the old kitchen garden. Browse 'Our Area' page to get an idea of what Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland has to offer. Willie and Catriona can point you in any direction your interests lay. HOSTS

Catriona and Willie Dickson enjoy having guests to stay and think that a good welcome and making you feel at home is what it is all about. They have a wide range of interests. Catriona can direct you in the horticultural side of life and Willie the geographical, especially Scotland. They are keen to share what both the local area and Scotland have to offer.

Local Activities
Chipperkyle is 1 mile from Kirkpatrick-Durham, which was established in 1783 and is a good example of a late 18th century planned village. Castle Douglas is 4 miles away and still has a cattle and sheep market. It is a bustling centre which has good Scottish bakers, a local fish shop and some great butchers selling Galloway meat and still a pork butcher at the bottom of the town. There are excellent shops for browsing and buying and a very good lunch/coffee spot at the Designs Gallery. Galloway has so much to offer in the way of arts and crafts, potteries, the Artists' town of Kirkcudbright, mountain biking, cycling, walking, sailing, golf, gardens, castles, bird watching - red kites, fishing, beaches, shooting"...but most of all it is the slower pace of life, the beauty, peace and wonderful light that make everyone want to return. Just come and see.

No pets in the house, please. Well-behaved dogs that sleep in the car are welcome and horses can usually be accommodated.
Disabled - Happy to help anyone with disabilities but there are really too many stairs for real comfort. It is an old house!
Children are welcome and we can offer cot, highchair, understanding etc.
