Clachan Cottage

Self Catering

Anwoth Old Schoolhouse, Gatehouse Of Fleet, Dumfries & Galloway, DG7 2EF

Nestling in a delightful garden this traditional "But 'n Ben" cottage is an idyllic haven for couples seeking a comfortable, homely, characterful holiday cottage in beautiful and peaceful surroundings.

The charming lounge with log burning stove provides a romantic and cosy setting.  French doors lead onto a sunny patio and attractive garden which is visited by the playful red squirrels and many species of birds.  Red Kites and Buzzards fly overhead and the occasional Otter may be spotted in the burn as it searches for wee brown trout.  Roe Deer, Fallow Deer and Badgers inhabit the neighbouring woodland.

Clachan Cottage is situated in picturesque Anwoth, opposite the historic and atmospheric Anwoth Old Kirk which featured in the infamous film "The Wickerman".  Amongst the many interesting old gravestones is the Covenanter's Martyr Stone commemorating those who were hounded and shot  for their religious beliefs.

Lying at the heart of the scenic Fleet Valley, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty, Anwoth provides an ideal base for exploring, either by car, bicycle or foot the beautiful unspoilt countryside and magnificent coastline of Dumfries and Galloway.  There are many interesting and varied walks from the doorstep and wildlife abounds both in the attractive garden and surrounding area.

The quaint wee toon of Gatehouse-of-Fleet with its good selection of shops, hotels, pubs and cafes can be reached by a one and a half mile scenic quiet country road or via a more adventurous small climb over Trusty's Hill with its pictish stone carvings and wonderful views of hills, coast and Cardoness Castle.  Due to the close proximity of the Gulf Stream there are many beautiful gardens to visit in the area and golfers and fishermen are well catered for with challenging golf courses and sea, river and loch fishing close by.  There are several quiet sandy beaches within a couple of miles from the cottage.
