Cosses Country House

Overview

The superb, licensed hospitality in this Wolsey Lodge, set in twelve acres of woodland and garden, in a secluded valley, is a little piece of heaven one loves to discover. Superlative standard of comfort and excellent accommodation in the long, low 17th century hunting lodge 2 miles from the sea and amazing views to Ailsa Craig, the Isle of Arran, the Mull of Kintyre and Ireland. Home grown and local produce provide the source for delicious, imaginative meals, to begin and end your day. This is the perfect base for exploring South West Scotland with its wonderful walks, golf, castles, gardens and pretty drives on quiet roads. 1 hour from Prestwick Airport and 30 minutes from the Irish Ferry Terminals. Robin and Susan love having people to stay and sharing their passion for superb food and wine. Home grown vegetables, fruit and herbs from the kitchen garden, locally reared meat, game, cheese and freshly caught seafood tempt the taste buds. Four course imaginative dinners (no choice - but preferences are discussed beforehand) are served dinner party style in the lovely dining room. Susan has written a book about the local food, local history and all that there is to see and do in South West Scotland. Their friends and guests describe them as 'perfect hosts'. Black labradors, Bonzo and Monty will escort you on a magical walk with views out to sea towards Ireland, Ailsa Craig, the Mull of Kintyre and Arran. Enjoy afternoon tea in a secluded garden, by Chailoch Burn, and drinks in front of a blazing log fire. The house dates back to 1606 and was a shooting lodge by Crailoch Burn on an old Roman Road. It became the Home Farm for the Glenapp Estate in the late 1800s and the dining room and kitchen were the dairy where the butter and cheese were made. The two spacious suites across the courtyard are converted farm buildings, and the garden room within the main house are all classically decorated and cleverly co-ordinated to a very high standard with every last detail in mind.

One hour from Prestwick Airport and low cost airlines, Two hours from Glasgow Airport and 30 minutes from Irish Ferry Terminals, it is an idyllic country setting, close to the sea, to explore South West Scotland. Whether walking, cycling or motoring through the myriad of quiet roads, visiting the abbeys, castles or standing stones in an area steeped in history, or exploring beautiful gardens, playing golf or fishing, there is something for everyone.

Places of Interest: Culzean Castle and Country Park, Logan Botanical Gardens, Castle Kennedy Gardens, Glen Whan Gardens, Port Patrick and Southern Upland Way, Galloway and Carrick Forests, Ailsa Craig, Turnberry Golf Courses and many others, Burns Heritage Centre, Glen Luce and Crossraguel Abbeys.
