This will take approx. 3 hours from Glasgow (4 from Edinburgh with some of the most beautiful scenery en route). Follow the M8 past Glasgow Airport, taking turn off to Erskine Bridge. On leaving bridge, take turnoff to Crianlarich. Follow the A82 past Dumbarton, Loch Lomond and change onto the A83 at Tarbet. Follow the A83 past Arrochar and Inveraray, down Loch Fyne, through Lochgilphead and on to Tarbert, at the gateway to Kintyre. The A83 continues down the Atlantic Coast of Kintyre, to Campbeltown. On entering Campbeltown, turn first left B842 to Carradale for 400m, then at a V junction, take the right fork, onto the lower coastal road, marked with a 20mph sign. This is Low Askomil. Craigard House Hotel is 500 metres along Low Askomil where you see the white sign.
From the nearest information centre:- From Campbeltown Tourist Information Centre, keep the sea to your right hand and follow the road around to the other side of Campbeltown Loch. Past the Aqualibrium (modern white building) and War Memorial on the left and, take left fork by Laundrette. Then take second right. Take the right fork at the V junction, into 20mph zone coastal road, proceeding along Low Askomil for 500m.
Getting there by Bus / Rail:- There is no railway in this part of Argyll, nearest is Oban. However it is possible to travel by bus - Scottish Citylink operates bus service 926, three times daily, from Edinburgh or Glasgow to Campbeltown and return, see www.citylink.co.uk
Getting there by aeroplane:- Only 25 minutes from Glasgow to Campbeltown airport, twice daily on weekdays. This is a British Airways service operated by Loganair. Car rental is available in Campbeltown, but not at the small airport terminal. However, the car rental companies will usually arrange to meet you at the airport with your car. We can also arrange collection by hotel vehicle or taxi.
Getting there by ferry:- Three ferry routes lead to this area. Important note - these ferries do not run in hours of darkness, so beware! Check times.
Via Arran - From Glasgow/Edinburgh go to Ardrossan, then ferry to Brodick on Isle of Arran. Traverse Arran then take second ferry Lochranza to Claonaig summer only. From Claonaig - follow Tarbert, then turn left onto the A83.
Alternatively, Via Cowal Peninsula -Western Ferries www.westernferries.co.uk from McInroy's Point, Gourock, to Hunter's Quay, between Dunoon and Sandbank. Turn right, A815 north. In Sandbank turn left onto B836 single track road. After approx 45 mins, at T junction take turn right on A886 briefly, then right to Tighnabruiach on A8003. Follow this road south to Portavadie, then take ferry to Tarbert. Follow A83 to Campbeltown.
