Crail House

Crail House was built around 1880 and a two storey wing was added in 1937.

In the twelfth century there stood on the site a royal castle only a small part of which remains. The house is still referred to locally as "the castle" and the nearby street names reflect its earlier status. It stands in impressive grounds extending to more than an acre in an elevated position overlooking the sea, the May Island, and the picturesque harbour of Crail. The views are exceptional. The nearest sandy beach, shops and hotels are within 200 yards of the gates.

There are three self-contained apartments available. From April until the end of October the minimum tenancy is a week commencing Saturday, but a booking made within 7 days of arrival can be for less than a week. Short breaks may be booked at any time between November and the end of March except for Christmas and New Year when the minimum stay is for a week.

Two of the apartments (nos 2 and 4) have a similar layout each consisting of an L-shaped sitting room/dining room, a double bedroom with wash hand basin, a twin bedded room, kitchen, bathroom and hall. The maximum occupancy is four persons. They are in the 1937 wing. Flat 4 is the upper. The rent per week for these apartments varies from£210 to £410 depending on the time of year.
Flat 3 is the upper floor of the original house. It is very spacious. It has a double, a twin and two single bedrooms the smaller of which is off the large sitting room. It is furnished with a short single bed (5ft6ins), chest of drawers and hanging space and like the double room and the sitting room it looks straight out to sea! The larger single can, if requested, be furnished with a double bed. The hall is spacious and the dining room, kitchen and principal bathroom are all of good size. There is a second washroom with an excellent shower unit, whb and wc. The maximum occupancy is six. The rent per week varies from£270 to £515, again according to season.

The kitchens of all three apartments are well equipped with full cooking facilities plus microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, toaster etc. All have gas central heating. Flat 4 is double glazed and so are significant parts of flat 3. A washing machine and tumble drier are available for the free use of tenants. An area of garden is set aside for the exclusive use of each flat. A parking space is allocated. Electricity and gas charges are included in the rent. The beds requested are made up prior to arrival. Towels are also provided. Preference is given to non smokers. Pet dogs are welcome but they must be kept on a lead when within the grounds and exercised beyond the gates.

A deposit of £50 per week is requested at the time of booking and the balance is due four weeks before entry. Guests are normally expected to arrive after 4 pm. However the flats are often ready before then and every effort will be made to give entry earlier especially in the case of those arriving from abroad. Guests are requested to vacate by 10 am at the end of their stay. For further details please contact our website or ourselves by phone fax or e-mail
