    Knockdow House is a stunning B listed country house, dating back to 1817. It has huge historical importance throughout the area was once the seat of the McGorrie Lamonts. Fabulously restored recently, it contains four self-catering apartments, offering a superb level of luxury holiday accommodation. Knockdow House is located on a 6000-acre estate on the Cowal Peninsula. Throughout the estate there are beautiful landscaped gardens, ponds, river, fishing lochs (fly fishing by prior arrangement) and woodland and coastal walks, with a diverse range of fauna and flora. Wildlife is abundant, with red squirrel, otters, roe deer and large variety of birdlife, including hen harriers, buzzards and eagles. Seals, otters and porpoises are also seen regularly throughout the area. Located on Argyll's Secret Coast, Knockdow House is tucked away in a small corner of Argyll on the west coast of Scotland and is an area of stunning natural beauty, with hills, glens, rugged coastlines, white beaches, clear waters and ancient forests. Argyll's Secret Coast is packed with places to visit and things to do, and sailors, walkers, cyclists, photographers and artists are all drawn to this area for its natural beauty. Explore the forests and coastline by foot, bike, kayak or boat. The whole area is steeped in Highland history and dotted with ruins, castles and ancient sites. Close by is Dunoon, which has a good selection of shops and restaurants, a cinema and swimming pool. Dunoon is of course the home of the Cowal Gathering, one of the largest and most spectacular Highland games in the world. There is a fantastic range of outdoor leisure activities in the area, including sailing, fishing, windsurfing, speed boat tours, quad biking, clay shooting and much more.

    'Cumbrae' is situated on the first floor of the East wing of the main house. This is a large and airy two bedroom Suite. Sumptuously appointed with antiques and original art work, it boasts fabulous views onto the main garden. There is a double aspect bedroom with a SuperKing size bed and a luxurious ensuite featuring an original but fully restored roll top tub and a separate shower enclosure. A further bedroom  (SuperKing bed or twin configuration) with its own separate bathroom makes this an ideal Suite for four to share.
    A large separate sitting room framed by two large windows and fully equipped kitchen area complete the ensemble.

    Road Directions

    Dunoon is the largest, nearest town.

    If you have arrived by ferry to Dunoon, as you come out of the ferry terminal, you turn left and follow the A815 through Dunoon, past Innellan, to Toward.

    Likewise, if you have arrived by  road, at Dunoon,  follow the A815 through Dunoon, past Innellan, to Toward.

    Drive along towards Toward Castle. You will pass: the sailing club on your left;  Killelan Farm on your left (with a wind turbine). Continue to follow the road until the sharp left bend, this takes you over a small humpback bridge. Immediately after, on the right, there is a large set of gates. Turn into the drive way and follow the signs. You have reached your destination.

    Dunoon is the largest , nearest Town.

    We can be accessed either via:

    - Ferry with terminals at both Dunoon (foot passenger ferry ; and Hunters Quay (car and passenger ferry ; With both connecting at either end of Gourrock, directly off the M8 (*)

    The foot passenger ferry from Dunoon links with the rail service departing Gourrock railway station , directly into Glasgow Central.

    It also connects with the 'Bus-link' to Glasgow airport at Paisley Gilmour Street station

    - Road : The scenic A82 North, along Loch Lomond side and then the enigmatic A83, ‘Rest and be Thankful’ , before joining the famous 'Three Lochs' A815 to Dunoon and then on to
