Dumfries House Lodge

Dumfries House Estate, Cumnock, Ayrshire, KA18 2NJ

The Lodge at Dumfries House is set in the Estate with its own specially landscaped grounds beside a small stream.

The former Farm Foreman’s House then the Factor’s House right up until halfway  through the 20th Century, the Lodge has been carefully adapted and extended yet still has a homely feel to it with real fires of an evening, lounges, the gardens and the courtyard along with the wider estate for guests to enjoy.

There are 22 ensuite rooms – some on the ground floor with direct access to the courtyard

    • Wi fi
    • LED TVs
    • Luxury hospitality trays
    • Complimentary Arran Aromatic toiletries

Breakfast is served in a couple of dining rooms and features local produce chosen to showcase local and the wider Scottish larder.  Seasonal produce from the 5 acres of Walled Garden will be on offer.  Free range eggs come from Stuart Rutherford in the Nith Valley in the South West of Scotland.  Preserves are from the family business in the north east of Scotland – Isabella’s Preserves. Tarelgin the butchers have their farmshop just up the road from the Lodge and make or Lorne (square) sausage, black pudding and haggis.  Grants in Prestwick supply our other fruit and vegetable needs. Teas are by Jeniers based in Johnstone who have a history in tea going back to the tea pioneers of James Taylor and the Bruce brothers.  These are just a few of the treats on our breakfast menu that will set you up for the day in the relaxing venues overlooking the gardens.

A visit to Dumfries House for a tour is a must during your stay.  Dine in The Café that is open 9am to 5pm every day.    It has retained its stable feel but feast now on cakes and savouries not hay!

The Woodlands Restaurant  on the estate is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings plus Sunday lunch.  This is also the hub for the Hospitality School where we do the “get into Hospitality” Princes Trust 5 week programme aimed at 16 to 25 year olds.

The Walled Garden and the walks in the grounds with the many surprising stopping points featuring unusual bridges and structures need time for exploration.

Out and about in the wider area of Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway is plenty to see and do with gardens, castles, Burns Country and the seaside.
