East Culkae

Overview

Situated just 14 miles south of Newton Stewart in picturesque Wigtownshire, East Culkae is a pretty farmhouse, with three beautifully decorated, homely en suite bedrooms - the spacious ground floor family room is suitable for people with mobility difficulties and each of the two upstairs rooms have a modern en suite with a walk-in shower. Each room has comfortable beds, a hospitality tray and a TV. Alternatively, VisitScotland accredited self-catering accommodation is also available - check out the self-catering section of site for more details.

In the mornings, choose from a delicious Scottish breakfast with all the trimmings or start the day with one of the lighter alternatives. Every Sunday, an afternoon tea, consisting of tasty home baking, is served between 2.00 to 4.00pm. Afterwards, you can relax in the homely residents lounge.

East Culkae is ideally located for exploring Scotland's longest and most challenging walking route, the Southern Upland Way, and close to the Galloway Forest Park, with its 300 square miles of beautiful green forest, heather-clad hills, wealth of wildlife and two of the 7stanes mountain biking centres, Glentrool and Kirroughtree. At night, it is also one of the best spots in the UK for stargazing with the naked eye, as it's the first Dark Sky Park in the UK and one of only two in Europe. Take the chance while here to explore Scotland's National Book Town, Wigtown and Scotland's most southern whisky distillery, Bladnoch Distillery, as well as many beautiful gardens and numerous historic sites which reveal the region's past, including the magnificent Baldoon Castle.
