For those with historic interests there are many castles, art galleries and historic monuments to choose from. Also within easy reach are a variety of country parks each with its own special features. For the energetic the Pentland hills are close by as is the ski slope at Hillend or a round of golf at St Andrews. The river Forth was once home to thriving fishing communities and many of the fishing villages are well worth a visit.     • Shop within 2 Miles / Mobile Shop Local Shopping: Across the road in the old Craigleith Quarry is a shopping park, open 8 till 8 Mon-Sat and 10 till 5 on Sundays. Here you will find Sainsbury's Supermarket (7 til 10) along with a range of other shops including a Boots pharmacy and others.

    South Groathill Ave runs between A90 and A902. Satnav users select postcode EH4 2LL, house number 11. From Edinburgh Airport:- take A8 for Edinburgh/City Bypass to Gogar Roundabout, first exit (A8 City Centre). From A720 city bypass at Gogar Roundabout:- take 2nd Exit, (A8 City Centre), keep in left lane, then at junction take left fork, A902 Maybury Rd, through next roundabout, at traffic lights a slight right on to A90. Follow A90 into City Centre for 4km until Holiday Inn Hotel/Esso Garage on right, turn sharp left at traffic lights on to South Groathill Ave. Entrance is first on left by trees.

    From Edinburgh Airport, 10.5km:- Take the ‘AirLink Bus’ into the city, 21min, stopping on Waverley Bridge. Alternatively take the new Edinburgh Tram to St Andrew Square. Walk the short distance to Princess Street. Bus stop between Edinburgh Waverley Steps and Princess Mall. Take Lothian 43 bus to Barnton. Leave the bus at South Groathill Ave (Holiday Inn Hotel/ Esso Garage), cross the road, turn right, then sharp left into South Groathill Ave.  Journey time 15mins.
