Eildon Holiday Cottages

Six charming holiday cottages formed from the conversion of a Georgian farm steading in a stunning location overlooking Melrose and the beautiful Tweed Valley. Each cottage sleeps 1-6 people

In a fold of the Eildon Hills above the attractive small Borders town of Melrose, Eildon Holiday Cottages is a converted Georgian farm steading comprising six self-catering cottages formed from the conversion of Georgian stone farm buildings dating from 1830. The cottages are owned and managed by Rob Martin, who lives on-site in the farmhouse together with his wife, Alex, and their family. The farmhouse and cottages are built of Melrose stone, a lovely old-rose colour. Lying 600 feet up on the northern side of the famous Borders landmark, the Eildon Hills, we are situated in an official area of outstanding natural beauty with magnificent views over the Tweed Valley to the Lammermuir and Moorfoot Hills beyond. Although very privately situated, the cottages are only half a mile from Melrose town square with its excellent shops and restaurants. From the cottages, there is a footpath leading to St Cuthbert's Way, the famous walking route that extends from Melrose to the Farne Islands.

All six cottages are modern, yet are designed to have a 'cottage' feel, and have old local field names to emphasise their individuality. All are bright, warm, comfortable, very well equipped and the accessible adaptations for disabled and elderly visitors, with five of the cottages designated Category 1, are subtle and unobtrusive. The cottages have won many awards including national accessibility awards, the Central Borders' Civic Trust Special Award for excellence, special mention in the National Civic Trust awards, and two architectural awards for the design and landscaping of the cottage complex.

Eildon Holiday Cottages is ideally placed for touring the beautiful Scottish Borders countryside on traffic-free roads, whether motoring or cycling. Edinburgh and the marvellous east coastline, with Holy Island and the great castles of Northumberland, are only an hour away. The Borders abounds with many fascinating places of historical and architectural interest, from Floors Castle, the home of the Duke of Roxburgh, to Abbotsford, the former home of the novelist Sir Walter Scott, which is less than 4 miles away. Melrose itself boasts the ruined Melrose Abbey, where the heart of Robert the Bruce is said to be buried.

Hill walking and golf are available almost from the door of the cottages, and the beautiful River Tweed, which runs through Melrose, offers salmon and trout fishing. Melrose's 9-hole golf course is at the bottom of our private road on the approach to the cottages. From the cottages there is a footpath down to Melrose town, which is part of the 100-kilometre St Cuthbert's Way that starts in Melrose and ends at Lindisfarne, and of course Melrose is the home of the famous Melrose Rugby Sevens tournament held in April each year.

We have provided a setting for all members of the family to holiday together, and we are very proud that our cottages have won many awards. We hope you will agree with the judges and greatly enjoy your stay with us.

We look forward to welcoming you to Eildon Holiday Cottages and the Scottish Borders.
