What does Feòrag Lodge offer?

Feòrag Lodge – a genuine log cabin – offers relaxing and very comfortable accommodation for up to 6 people in one of Scotland’s most beautiful regions. It sits naturally at the edge of mountain & forest. Nature and wildlife abound with the symbolic red squirrel (Feòrag in Gaelic) a frequent, curious and charming neighbour. The lodge has:

·         A large double aspect lounge with high vaulted ceiling, comfortable seating, gentle lighting, a mini library with maps, suggested trips, toys and games, CD player and assorted discs, DVD player and discs and a digital flat-screen TV makes this a room to relax and unwind

·         A master bedroom with king size bed

·         Two additional twin/double bedrooms

·         Bathroom with a bathtub and a separate electric shower. Also a wash basin. A separate area within the room contains the WC and large airing cupboard.

·         Kitchen/Diner –fully equipped with washer/dryer, fridge freezer, dishwasher, cooker, microwave etc. Also all crockery, flatware, glasses, cooking utensils, cutlery etc.

·         Deck - a covered area is perfect for storing boots, buggies, bicycles, rock pooling nets and the paraphernalia of family holidays. Or relax on the deck with a coffee or evening drink and watch the sun set towards the 2300ft summit of Bheinn Mhor.

 What to see & do and where to go

The very accessible Cowal Peninsula offers mountains, lochs and fjords, forests and glens. Hill walking, cycling, fishing, sailing, bird & wildlife watching, golf, mountain biking, photography and a host of other pursuits are on the doorstep. The world’s biggest Highland Gathering is held in Dunoon every August. Inveraray, Oban, Glencoe, Loch Lomond, Dunoon and the Firth of Clyde coast are easily reached from the lodge. A daytrip to Edinburgh, Glasgow or Stirling is equally straightforward. Two of our guests recently spent a day birdwatching on Islay and investigating the Laphroaig distillery!

Feòrag Lodge is one of a small collection of lodges located on the Western edge of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park within the Argyll Forest Park. It is less than a mile’s walk to the celebrated Benmore Botanic Garden with its towering Douglas Firs, giant Redwoods and miles of trails and walks. The lodge itself sits right by Puck’s Glen where miles of tracks offer spectacular views and wonderful walks. There is a vast range of hiking opportunities locally from wandering the high tops, to long coastal hikes with the enchantment of deep glens in between. Loch Eck, probably Scotland’s most beautiful freshwater glacial loch lies just a mile away from Feòrag Lodge. The coasts of Loch Fyne and the Firth of Clyde are fifteen minutes away. One of the most favoured trips is the circular drive to Tighnabruaich  via Glen Lean, Loch Striven and Loch Riddon where the highpoint view over the Kyles of Bute is breathtaking and returning via Milhouse, Loch Fyne side and Strachur.

The beautiful Georgian town of Inverary is forty five minutes away on the west side of Loch Fyne and offers Inverary Castle, the home of the Dukes of Argyll.

For those happy to travel a little further afield, Glasgow is approximately one and a half hours away and Edinburgh is two and a half hours with their cultural, historic and retail attractions. They are both easy daytrips using Western Ferries from Hunter’s Quay (four miles from Feòrag Lodge) to Gourock, the road from which soon has you on the M8.

The Trossachs and the glories of Perthshire and Stirlingshire are roughly two hours away while the local main town of Dunoon with a wide array of shops is just fifteen minutes by car. Dunoon has an excellent swimming pool and gym and is the home of Cowal Golf Club, a superb course designed by the celebrated James Braid in 1891. Dunoon is also the site of the world’s largest annual Highland Gathering, the Cowal Games, a celebration of Highland culture with pipe bands, World Championship Highland Dancing, ceilidh tent, children’s' entertainment, firework display, heavy athletics and a march-past of over 100 pipe bands.  "The Games" takes place on the last weekend of August.
