Fishermans Cottage

An outstanding 18th century waterfront cottage in the sheltered town of Stromess.in a peaceful setting with all ameneties closeby.

Sensitively renovated with exquisite fittings, the owner has achieved a unique mix of relaxed contemporary decor whilst keeping the Orcadian character of this traditional cottage. With two bathrooms this is real modern living, one on the first floor with a duo bath/shower and on the ground floor an underfloor heated rain-shower wet room.

 
The open plan bedroom has a magnificent sea view seen from the comfortable king-size bed. The chaise sofa in the sitting-room is ideal for lounging in front of the multi fuel stove and you can while away hours listening to the waves lapping and watching the sea birds, boats, ferries, yachts, cruise ships and the occasional tall ship pass by. There is a quiet reading room with daybed on the first floor with a desk and broadband hub for wi-fi internet. This room can be converted to a second bedroom ideal for a small family.
 
You will love the attention to detail in the spacious kitchen/diner equipped for proficient cooks and comfortable elegant dining. Grocery shops, a delicatessen, excellent butcher, local fish/crab/lobster processors and irresistible local baking are a stroll away for eating-in ingredients or, taste local dishes at the cafes, pubs, restaurants and takeaways.
 
Get inspired by artist galleries and craft shops or visit the current exhibition at the internationally acclaimed Pier Arts Centre or create your own art photographing or painting the ever changing light. The Museum should not be missed, a treasure trove of local history and characters and folk life.
 
For the active the golf course, bird watching from wetland hides, cliff-top walks, cycle hire, loch and sea fishing and ferry to Hoy for an exhilarating walk to the Old Man of Hoy, all within easy distance. Take yourself into another world of Neolithic and Viking life by visiting the many archeological sites or visit the war defences of Scapa Flow.
 
You can picnic on the stone-bullt pier garden and enjoy one of the best views of Stromness waterfront.
