Flodigarry, former home to Scottish heroine Flora MacDonald and A Country House Hotel of the Year - much loved to which many return year after year together with the children and family dog - all are welcome here. Located in ancient woodlands up on the Quiraing in north east Skye, Flodigarry is a traditional non-trendy warm and friendly hotel with an easy going atmosphere, beauty and Jacobite past which blends together to create something quite magical.

If you like super food, fine wine and malts; breathtaking mountain and sea views, the great outdoors, wildlife walks, guided mountain and geological rambles, traditional story telling, ceilidhs, boat trips and fishing or simply to go feet up with a book by a log fire - then Flodigarry is just right for you.

Flodigarry offers an excellent choice of really comfortable bedrooms - all en-suite - which should suit all needs. Bedrooms are available in both the main house and Flora MacDonald's Cottage - no more than a few minutes walk from Flodigarry House and where Flora MacDonald raised five of her seven children - a wonderful place to soak up history.

You can enjoy a full range of outdoor activities or simply relax with a good book by a log fire. Weekend house parties feature lively music nights - at all other times Flodigarry is utter peace and tranquillity - you may hear waves breaking on the shore and logs crackling away on the fire - the perfect antidote to life on the fast lane - so do please come along - your welcome dram awaits.

Road Directions

The route to Flodigarry will take you through some of the most spectacular scenery in the Scottish Highlands.

From Glasgow take the A82 by way of the west bank of Loch Lomond to Crianlarich...

From Glasgow/Edinburgh alternatively take the M80 (Glasgow) or M9 (Edinburgh) to Stirling and then follow the A84 via Callander and Strathyre to Lochearnhead from where you take the A85 to Crianlarich.

From Crianlarich the A82 goes via Tyndrum, Bridge of Orchy, Rannoch Moor, Glencoe - and over the bridge that replaced the ferry at Ballachulish in 1975 - to Fort William. You can take the beautiful road from Fort William to Mallaig and cross over to Skye via the Mallaig to Armadale ferry. However the route via the Skye Bridge as suggested below is quicker.

Public Transport Directions

From the nearest information centre:- Portree and then the A855 to Staffin and from here to Flodigarry. Most of the A855 beyond Portree is a single track road, there are well defined and regular 'passing places' please be courteous to other road users.

Getting there by railway:- Nearest station is Kyle of Lochalsh - we'll gladly pick you up from here. Trains run from here to Inverness where they connect to all other parts of the Scotland and the UK. More information from www.thetrainline.com

Getting there by aeroplane:- Inverness is the nearest airport to us on Skye, about three hours drive away by hire car, alternatively you can travel from here to Portree by Coach or to Kyle by train - and we can arrange to pick you up!

Easyjet now operate services from London Luton, Gatwick and Bristol to Inverness
British Airways operate a service from London Gatwick to Inverness
BMI - British Midland also operate services from Manchester, London Heathrow and other UK and European airports
Eastern Airways fly to Inverness from several UK airports including Norwich and Lee

Getting there by ferry:- From Crianlarich the A82 goes via Tyndrum, Bridge of Orchy, Rannoch Moor, Glencoe - and over the bridge that replaced the ferry at Ballachulish in 1975 - to Fort William. From Shiel Bridge you may follow the A87 to the Skye Bridge via Kyle alternatively during the summer months you may like to take the more adventurous route via the Glenelg - Kylerhea ferry.
