Fold Cottage

Overview

Fold Cottage is ideally situated in the heart of the Scottish Borders, an area of the Country often neglected by tourists. It offers a wealth of interesting places and country to explore. The river Tweed is a mile away, Floors Castle, and Abbotsford (home of Sir Walter Scott) are within ten miles as are three of the famous Borders abbeys! The nearby Eildon Hills were the site of the Roman settlement of Trimontium, centre of the Roman area north of Hadrians Wall. These hills can be seen from the front of the cottage. The remains of the Roman settlement can be viewed (a turning off the Melrose road.)

The cottage itself is equipped to the highest possible standard and being a steading (farm building) conversion benefits from a wonderfully picturesque stone exterior and very modern interior!

ALL bedding and towels as well as heating and lighting are included in the weekly charge!

One well behaved dog will be welcome!
Our cottage in Scotland is only 20 miles north of the border, so it is about 350 miles from London and 40 miles south of Edinburgh. It has two bedrooms, one en suite, plus a family bathroom and a downstairs cloakroom. The kitchen is open plan with the living room and in addition, there is a sizeable conservatory. Outside there is a reasonably sized garden for the exclusive use of guests and there is ample parking for two cars.

The River Tweed flows through St. Boswells and there are wonderful walks along its banks. Fly fishing is a popular pastime on the river.

Melrose, Jedburgh and Kelso are all within a short drive, each of these has interesting remains of an Abbey. Berwick-upon-Tweed is only about 30 miles away. There are plenty of other interesting places to visit, many of them listed in our folder and with information leaflets in the cottage.

The Fold is furnished and equipped to a high standard. The kitchen equipment includes a washer/drier (in a utility room) and a dishwasher, a four ring gas hob, an electric double oven and microwave. In addition we even have a "hostess trolley" and a Corby trouser press! In the garden there is a table and chairs which can be used on the 'decking'.

The cottage sleeps four in two bedrooms. The master bedroom has an en suite shower room and is equipped with a double plus a single wardrobe, plenty of drawer space, and a five foot bed.

The second bedroom is served by the family bathroom just across the landing and has two three foot beds and a small wardrobe.

Bed linen and towels are included as are gas and electricity.

A television is provided, equipped to receive 'freeview' channels. A DVD player and a separate CD player are also available.

ONE well behaved dog is welcome at a small extra charge.

The village, around a mile away, has a pub providing very good food, in a bar or a restaurant, shops (Butchers, Post Office/General Store and a Co-op Store). There is also a Fish and Chip Shop and a Chinese Take-away.

In addition, Melrose boasts several good restaurants and the Dryburgh Hotel (next door to the ruins of Dryburgh Abbey) has a superb restaurant.

In addition to the fly fishing in the Tweed mentioned above the cottage has various attractions within a short drive.

As well as Edinburgh, only about an hours drive away, the towns of Berwick, Jedburgh, Kelso, Melrose Peebles and Selkirk are all worth a visit.
