Road Directions

Head for Ardrossan and follow the signs for the Arran Ferry or Ardrossan Harbour. From Glasgow the quickest and simplest route is to follow M77 A77 A78. You will pick up signs for Ardrossan and the Arran Ferry once you are on the A78.

When you arrive in Brodick, leave the harbour and turn left (south). Follow the main road through Lamlash and Whiting Bay for about 18km. You will see a small green corrugated iron house (see picture gallery) and the sign for KIldonan. You turn left in fromt of the green house. Travel down to Kildonan shore, past the Kildonan Hotel and head towards a red colonial style house. Grianan House and Cottage are white houses on the right hand side after Island Properties and before the large red house. There is a sign at the entrance.

Public Transport Directions

From the nearest information centre:- As from Brodick pier

Getting there by railway:- There is a regular train service from Glasgow Central to Ardrossan Harbour. It is timed to match the ferry departures. You must be in one of the front four carriages.

Other trains stop at Ardrossan town rather than the Harbour. There is about a fifteen minute walk to the ferry.

Getting there by aeroplane:- Glasgow Airport

Airport taxis are usually available and will usually agree a price with you beforehand.

Getting there by ferry:- The Car Ferry to Arran travels from Ardrossan Harbour to Brodick several times a day. The crossing takes 55 minutes. Please make sure you book your car on the boat.
You can do this online at www.calmac.co.uk or by phone +44 (0)8000 66 5000

Once on Arran if you don't have a car, buses run from just behind the ferry terminal - or ask us to book a taxi for you. Car hire is available from the garage at the Pier, but at busy times it would be advisable to book in advance.
