Hillcrest House

Overview

Full of character and charm, this stunning Victorian villa has been carefully restored with your comfort in mind. Offering six comfortable en suite bedrooms, an elegant guest lounge plus a large stylish dining room where delicious meals are served, everything is in place to make sure you have the perfect stay.

The first-class breakfast and mouth-watering evening meals have been recognised with consecutive Scottish Hotel of the Year Awards since 2008, and in 2012, Hillcrest House was awarded the Real & Local Food Gold Medal. The quality is due to the owner's commitment to making the most of the regions amazing natural larder. Indulge in a freshly prepared Scottish breakfast with all the trimmings or fill up on one of the lighter options. The award-winning sausages come from the local butcher, the eggs are free-range and come straight from a farm in Stranraer, the speciality bread is baked in Creetown and all jams and preserves are all homemade or locally produced. Depending on the season the evening menu changes frequently, so please ask for details when making your booking.

Stay here and you are practically on the doorstep of the largest Local Nature Reserve in Britain, Wigtown Bay Local Nature Reserve. Nearby, on the top floor of the County Building you can watch live CCTV coverage of ospreys, and less than 10 miles away the Galloway Forest Park offers a wealth of wildlife and miles of adventure paradise, including two of the 7stanes mountain biking centres, Glentrool and Kirroughtree and 27 waymarked trails. At night, it is also one of the best spots in the UK for stargazing with the naked eye, as it's the first Dark Sky Park in the UK and one of only two in Europe!
