Self Catering

Invermay, 130 Perth Road, Blairgowrie, Perthshire, PH10 6EQ

Welcome to Invermay Self catering Holiday Cottage Blairgowrie Scotland. Invermay is a self catering fully restored Victorian Villa on the A93 Royal Deeside tourist route which runs from Perth to the South and to Aberdeen in the North.

The owner's former family home has been re-invented as a holiday cottage for the 21st century. The original features from the 1880s have been cleverly blended with a modern twist to provide all the comforts of a modern family home blended with vintage character. Self-catering guests may like to embrace the spirit of the 1920s by shaking up a cocktail from the orginal cocktail recipe list hidden in the sitting room - just remember to bring some angostura bitters!

Family groups of all ages will love the flexible living and play space. There is something for everyone at Invermay, whether they are weeks old or approaching a century!
The house is within 20 minutes of Scone Palace on the same road - just turn left and keep going. It is easy to find one's way to Balmoral Castle: turn right and keep going for 75 minutes! Braemar is only 55 minutes to the north after passing through Glenshee ski resort 40 minutes away. In winter, Glenshee offers the most extensive ski area in Scotland. In summer, it provides a number of easy Munros for "Munro Baggers" to climb.
Invermay is only five minutes drive from championship golf courses at Blairgowrie Golf Club. There is wonderful fishing at Butterstone Loch 15 minutes from the house. The Ardblair walking trail is only 10 minutes on foot and the Cateran Trail starts in Blairgowrie and is a 64 mile circular trip via Bridge of Cally, Kirkmichael, Spittal of Glenshee, Glenisla and Alyth.
Guests can swim in the public pool just round the corner or hire bikes 5 minutes walk along the main road. The bus stop is right across the road.

McManus Museum and Galleryin Dundee (Currently there has just been an exhibition of the famous Scottish colourist Caddell on Show and now Leonardo da Vinci's drawings are on loan from the Queen's Gallery. However, take your spectacles and a magnifing glass as the lighting is poor to preserve the paper, which was made from pulped old clothes. Recycling the 16th century way!) There are also wonderful concerts in the Caird Hall in Dundee as well as in Perth Concert Hall. Perth Museum is a very good little attraction in the city centre as well as the Ferguson Gallery (another one of the Scottish colourists). In Blairgowrie there are regular weekly pipe band concerts in the Wellmeadow as well as monthly farmer's markets and other attractions.

The house sleeps up to 10 persons, if 4 are children. There is one triple room and one family room (for 4) upstairs with a shower room as well as a bathroom. Downstairs is a very large double room (the "rock'n'roll bedroom"!) which has a single sofa bed.  Through the new kitchen there is a dining room looking on to the rear garden and then through the small utility room with washing machine there is a large bathroom with separate shower having low tray and wall-mounted seat. The bath has hand rails and a shower mixer tap.
A unique feature of the house is the infra-red sauna looking on to the rear garden. This is not a steam sauna, but rather, it is a dry heat sauna, good for post-sport aches and pains! Foot spas are also available for the use of guests, who can use raspberry foot rub from the Highland Soap Company, which supplies all the liquid hand soap, hand cream, body wash, shampoo and conditioner throughout the property.
There is extensive parking on-site at Invermay for several cars. The lower level of the garage and the conservatory can be used for storage of all sporting equipment and for hanging wet clothing. Once the clothing has dried off somewhat it can be brought in the back door to the utility/dining area and hung on the heated clothes drier.
There is free WiFi in the house and TVs with freeview in the kitchen and sitting room.

    Road Directions

Invermay is on the A93 Royal Deeside route from Perth to Aberdeen. It is situated about 14 miles north of Scone Palace and is about 30 miles south of Braemar. Glamis castle is less than a half hours drive on the way to Forfar in Angus, and Blair Castle is about 50 minutes drive from Invermay, by driving from Blairgowrie to Dunkeld and then up the A9 past Pitlochry and on to Blair Atholl.

Invermay is a one hour drive from Edinburgh airport and one and three quarter hours from Glasgow Airport. It is 30 minutes from Dundee Airport and rail station. Perth Station is also a 30 minute drive. There is a local bus service and a bus stop is across the road from the house.

A car would be very helpful in order to enjoy your stay. However, it is not essential, especially if one intends to go walking or cycling. For fishermen and golfers, a car would be very advantageous. However, the golf club can be reached by a short taxi ride or even walking with the clubs on a trolley, it would take about 15 to 20 minutes to reach the courses.

Fishing can be arranged with Ghillie Ian Nelson and he can transport guests to the best locally available fishing or further afield on the Dee, Don or Deveron. In addition, he can facilitate fishing on various lochs and waters within Invercauld Estate, which though based in Aberdeenshire, also has large tracts of land in Perthshire. Fishing permits are available from the estate office in Braemar.

    Public Transport Directions

From Perth   Car Follow the signs for the A93 and Scone Palace. Pass the palace entrance, Meikleour Beech Hedge planted at the time of the Jacobites, and continue past the 7th hole of the "wee course", Dalmore restaurant and about a mile after, Invermay is situated on the right side, the second house on Perth Road just after passing the junction with Beeches Road. Bus There is a bus stop right across the road from the house, so one can take the local bus into Blairgowrie, although it is also easy to walk. Guests would be best to have a car throughout their stay to take advantage of all the activities on offer in the area. There are bus services from Perth and Dundee to Blairgowrie, although not all services pass along the Perth Road as some will go to the bus station at the Wellmeadow, about a 15 minute walk to the house. The VisitScotland tourist office is in the Wellmeadow and the staff there are happy to help and provide maps of the town and general area. Train One can take the train to Perth or Dundee and then organise car hire from either station. Car hire is also available from Glasgow or Edinburgh Airports. From Edinburgh   Car If coming from Edinburgh, follow the signs for the Forth Bridge, cross the bridge, follow the signs for Perth, then A93 and Scone Palace as before past the Wee Course and Dalmore Inn. From Glasgow   Car Follow the signs for Stirling and once at Broxden roundabout outside Perth, take the turn-off signed for Dundee, Friarton Bridge and then the A93/Scone Palace as before. From Dundee   Car From Dundee Station or Airport drive west along Riverside Drive in the Perth direction until the Kingsway/Dual Carriageway meets Riverside Drive at the large roundabout at the Landmark Hotel. Turn right and follow the signs for Forfar. Continue until you see a sign for Coupar Angus and Blairgowrie at Camperdown Park. Drive through the villages of Birkhill and Muirhead and then take the left fork for Blairgowrie and continue. Pass Piperdam Golf course and hotel on the left as well as Ledyat Loch Fishings. Just after the highest point in the road at Tillibaccart Farm, stop at the car park on the left to admire the view on a clear day of Coupar Angus, Blairgowrie and snow on the Grampians. Continue through Coupar Angus. At Rosemount turn left into Golf course road and continue to the next junction at the end of Golf Course Road with Perth Road. Turn right at the wrought iron golfer. Invermay is just after Beeches Road on the right about a mile along. South East England   Coming from south east England, the easiest way is from London City to Dundee Airport. In clear weather you will see the magnificant structure of the Forth Rail Bridge and then Fife before descending and possibly flying up the River Tay - unmissable! Pre-arrange a car hire to pick up at Dundee Airport and drive as before from Dundee via Tullibaccart.
