Road Directions

From Stornoway follow the A857 for about 11 miles to Barvas. Take the first turning left after the Welome Inn Filling Station and follow the signs to Siabost (gaelic for Shawbost). You will pass a Community School on your left hand side, then pass a cattle grid, sign for Siabost bho Dheas (gaelic for South Shawbost). Take the first right after the cattle grid and we are the ninth house on the right hand side. The house is stone fronted, hard by the road with the Chalet visible on the other side of the road.

Public Transport Directions

Getting there by aeroplane:- There have been scheduled passenger flights to Stornoway for very many years now and, at present, you can fly in from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness and Aberdeen. There are also inter-island flights to Benbecula and Barra. A new, well-fitted terminal building was opened at Stornoway in 2002 and is well served by car-hire firms and taxi operators.

Getting there by ferry:- The majority of visitors reach Lewis by Cal Mac ferry service from Ullapool. The ISLE OF LEWIS makes two or three double-runs daily Mon-Sat. The sail from Ullapool to Stornoway takes two and a half hours. Or take the shorter and more scenic route from Uig in Skye to Tarbert in Harris. This takes just over an hour and a half making one or two double-runs daily Mon-Sat. Tarbert itself is about thirty-five minutes from Stornoway and just over an hour from Shawbost. If you'd like to take in the Uists on your holiday, CalMac also run a car ferry from Leverburgh in South Harris to Berneray, now linked to North Uist by causeway. The LOCH PORTAIN has more limited facilities and vulnerable to tidal and weather delays (always check before travelling) This is the only seven-day ferry to operate
