Gardenstown is a picturesque village situated on the Moray Firth with stunning views across to Caithness. Here you can take things easy and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of village life. You can while the hours away at the harbour or explore the small sandy beach with its red sandstone cliffs and numerous rock pools.
For nature lovers it is a paradise being close to the RSPB reserve at Troup Head which boasts the largest mainland colony of nesting gannets in Scotland amongst many other seabirds including the puffin.
Dolphins can be seen regularly swimming in the bay; a truly amazing sight.
In spring the hillsides are covered with primroses and in early summer wild orchids grow on the grassy slopes amongst a myriad of other wild flowers.
For film enthusiasts the village of Pennan is a mere ten minutes drive away. Here Burt Lancaster starred in the film Local Hero. Visit Pennan and photograph the famous red phone box which was an integral part of the film.
