    We have named our self-catering unit Laingbrae Cottage, as it is a conversion of the original outhouses, forming part of Laingbrae, which dates from 1862. However, the accommodation resembles a cottage in name only.

    Inside, the modern fittings and furnishings include a spacious open plan kitchen/living/dining area with dining table and 4 chairs.
    A comfortable seating area with 32" wall-mounted television (+ Freeview) gives rise to feelings more akin to the comforts of a modern, town apartment.
    There are 2 generous double bedrooms, one of which can easily convert to a twin. Both are en-suite, with toilet, basin and shower. One has been fully fitted as a disabled-friendly wet room with walk in shower and disabled toilet with grab rails.
    There is ample onsite parking for guests. The accommodation has been planned and built to the highest modern standards, and is fully insulated, with the hot water supply provided by means of Solar Power.
    A ramp to the main door and the internal design allows for wheelchair access.
    One of the shower-rooms has been designed as a wet-room, with a large walk-in shower, disabled toilet and all necessary handrails.
    A separate utility room houses a washing machine and tumble drier and also comprises a drying/drainage area. It can also be used as an equipment storage area by those guests wishing to participate in their favourite outdoor activities, such as rambling, bird-watching, diving, angling.
    The house is only a 5 minute walk from St Magnus Cathedral and the centre of Kirkwall, and is situated on the Airport road, heading to the East Mainland with the sea and beautiful Orkney countryside only minutes away.
    Supermarkets, newsagents, gift shops, etc, are all within walking distance, as is the Pickaquoy Leisure Centre, with cinema, sports/leisure facilities, bar/eating area.

    Follow directions for by Ferry if coming via Stromness or St Margarets Hope.

    Public Transport Directions

    From the nearest information centre:- Go up Palace Road. Follow road till you see main junction (Clay Loan). You will see Laingbrae (house with white conservatory) almost opposite. Next turn off on left hand side is Park Loan. Entrance to cottage off Park Loan.

    Getting there by aeroplane:- From Airport follow road into Kirkwall. Go past junction indicating turn off for Highland Park Distillery and continue for 200 yards. Cottage entrance is off Park Loan: located on right hand side of road.

    Getting there by ferry:- cottage is 3rd house on the left opposite grassy area.
    From St Margarets Hope: Follow signs for Kirkwall. Go past Highland Park Distillery and turn right at bend in the road. Continue to junction and turn left. Cottage is on corner of Park Loan, which is located on the right hand side of the road about 200 yards beyond junction.
