Overview

Short description

Loch Odhairn Crofthouse sleeps 7, having one double bedroom, a twin bedroom, and a bedroom to sleep 3 in one single and 2 bunk beds. There is also a single bed settee in the living room. There are two bathrooms with toilets; one has a shower and bath, and one has a shower. The kitchen is large enough for all guests to eat in. In the utility room is a washing machine and tumble dryer.

There is an enclosed garden, and parking for two cars on the property, but three cars can be accommodated.

The house is heated by a multi-fuel stove and room heaters.

We have a selection of books, games, dvds etc but there is no television reception.
Linen and towels are provided. Well-behaved dogs are welcome at a cost of £5.

The area provides outstanding opportunities for walking, cycling, bird watching, photography, all sorts of water-based activities - especially fishing - as well as sight-seeing throughout Lewis and Harris, in which the property is centrally-based.

We have to add, however, that the position of the property is one of its best attributes. Its high situation gives it extensive views over the sea-loch towards mainland Scotland. There is no tv or phone, and therefore no internet in the house - peace and quiet are guaranteed!

PRICES FROM £275 PER WEEK TO £450 PER WEEK.
PLEASE CONTACT VIA PHONE OR EMAIL TO OWNER NOT TO PROPERTY.

More details

Loch Odhairn Crofthouse is an old croft dating back to the early 19th century overlooking Loch Odhairn, a mile-long sea loch. Our family and friends have been using the house for holidays for ten years and we have had consistent praise for the comfort the house provides. We have built up a stock of books, maps and local information which you can use. As well are videos and dvds - there is a tv for these - and a cd player with cds, and two radios. The house is furnished with some local paintings and Harris tweed accessories.

The bedrooms upstairs are a standard double bed and a twin-bedded room, both of which have stunning views. The downstairs bedroom sleeps three, in a single and bunk beds, and also has a view over the loch and front garden. The bathroom and shower room are also downstairs.

The comfortable lounge area is the hub of the house. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking and eating and can seat up to 8 people with a drop-leaf table. We will provide a small stock of tea, coffee, sugar, salt, oil, washing-up liquid and a tea towel but you might bring some of your own as well. The washing machine and tumble dryer are in a small utility room and there is an outside washing line.

We find the multi-fuel stove very easy to use and it will heat the whole house but there are also electric room heaters in every bedroom.

The garden consists of an enclosed area with shrubs, herbs and a lawn around the house, and a larger wilder garden with a stream. In the past the local sheep have been able to get in and graze, but we hope to keep them out with new fencing.
If you bring a dog please be aware that sheep roam freely and you should keep the dog on a lead when out. Canoes, bikes etc can be kept safely in the garden.

Among the many reasons for coming to Lewis and Harris, wildlife watching must be one of the most popular. From the garden we have seen otters, seals and shoals of mackerel in the loch and many bird species including sea eagles which nest in the area and a corncrake was heard on the croft in 2011. Golden eagles can often be seen too. In the summer, wild flowers are abundant.
For the fisherman, the many lochs are free to fish and full of trout.

The main reason we are now letting the house is that we want to give other people the chance to share it. Once you have been, our visitors’ book consistently agrees, you will never forget the wildness, beauty, peace and sheer magic that is this part of Lewis.
