Lochview - Tarbet

Overview

It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and the loch and its surroundings hills constitute one of the premier leisure and tourist attractions in Scotland.

The house is over 200 years old and previous guests have included Dorothy Wordsworth, the sister of the poet William Wordsworth, who recorded her visit in her diary while travelling around Scotland in the early 19th century.

Lochview is situated prominently on the main A83 road to Campbeltown, just beyond the junction with the A82 at the Tarbet Hotel. Parking for guests is available on the property. It is approximately 45 minutes drive from Glasgow Airport (less from the city centre) and under 2 hours from Prestwick Airport. It is served by Citylink buses from Glasgow and also by train - the house is a ten minute walk from the railway station (Arrochar and Tarbet) on the West Highland line running from Glasgow to Fort William, Mallaig or Oban.

The shore of Loch Lomond is only a few minutes walk from the house, where visitors can join short sails on locally-based pleasure boats on the loch. The house looks onto an impressive view of Ben Lomond on the opposite side of the loch. It is an excellent centre for hill walking and climbing in the area, including the Munros and Corbetts of the 'Arrochar Alps' and Glen Falloch. Local forest walks provide an alternative for the less strenuously inclined.
