Inverness Airport http://www.hial.co.uk/inverness-airport/ has flights from Amsterdam, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Geneva, London, Manchester and local links to the Scottish islands. Easyjet http://www.easyjet.com is perhaps the most popular airline for Inverness

East Coast's Highland Chieftain Train runs from London through Edinburgh to Aviemore and Inverness and is an excellent way to arrive in the Highlands. See http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/. You can also take the sleeper train from London to Aviemore and Inverness with Caledonian Sleepers. http://www.scotrail.co.uk/caledoniansleeper/index.html which is enjoyable and easy. There are quite a number of trains from Edinburgh and Glasgow to Aviemore with First Scotrail. See http://www.scotrail.co.uk/. Coaches run from Edinburgh and Glasgow with Citylink. See http://www.citylink.co.uk/index.php. The Edinburgh to Aviemore coach can take up to 4 hours but the Citylink Gold from Glasgow is a fairly comfortable 2.5 hours.
