Public Transport Directions

From the nearest information centre:- From Glasgow take the M8 following the signs to Greenock. Take the M898 exit for Erskine Bridge. Once across the bridge, take the left fork marked A82 Crianlarich. Stay on the A82 for about 30 miles to Tarbet (not Tarbert!). Take the A83 and follow for about 60 miles, through Inveraray and Lochgilphead, and finally to Tarbert. Marviesta is on your right as you come down the hill into the village (you won't actually see the house at this point), and is directly across from a small T-junction. There is private parking for 2 cars on the verge on your right. Marviesta is reached by doubling back about 30 yards to a set of steps. Go up the steps and follow the short path to the house.

Getting there by railway:- From Glasgow Central station or Queen Street Station, it is a 10-15 minute walk or 5 minute taxi ride to Buchanan Street bus station. The 926 bus to Tarbert, run by West Coast Motors, runs three times a day and takes you directly to Tarbert in 3-3 ½ hours.

Getting there by aeroplane:- From Glasgow Airport, take a shuttle bus into the city and get off at Buchanan bus station. The 926 bus to Tarbert, run by West Coast Motors, runs three times a day and takes you directly to Tarbert in 3-3 ½ hours.

Getting there by ferry:- For a more leisurely and scenic drive from Glasgow, take the M8/A8 towards Greenock. Contine through Greencok to Gourock. From Gourock take the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry (which sails hourly) or the Western Ferry (which sails every fifteen minutes) to Dunoon. The Western ferry dock is two miles further south on the A8. From Dunoon, follow the signs to Strachur for 3 miles. Turn left at a T junction on your left which is signposted to Tignabruich. Continue to follow the signs to Tighnabruich, Kames and Portavadie Ferry for abut 24 miles unitl you come to a small single track road about 5 miles out of Tignabruich. Turn right here and follow for a mile to the Portavadie ferry slip. The ferry comes hourly. (Check Caledonian MacBrayne for times.) The sailing to Tarbert takes about 25 minutes
