    Merrick is a comfortable and welcoming log cabin within Barend Holiday Village, sleeping 8 people. It has wonderful views and is a great base for a holiday along Scotland's Secret Coast, where there are activities for all ages and tastes.

    The site itself is a quiet complex just 1/4 mile from Sandyhills beach in Dumfries and Galloway. There is a bar with restaurant attached on site. Both are welcoming and family friendly. The food is good quality and offers generous portions.

    The chalet is well equipped, has gas central heating and is fully double glazed. Please refer to the 'Facilities' tab for full details of equipment. We believe you will have all you need for a comfortable stay. The chalet can accommodate up to 8 people, and it does so in comfort. The provision of the en-suite with additional mains shower means there are sufficient facilities for 8 and there is a plentiful supply of hot water.

    Accommodation consists of one double room with en-suite, a twin room downstairs with easy access, and a large open room upstairs with 4 single beds. Our aim is to provide a spotlessly clean holiday base which offers all the home comforts you will need.

    The chalet is NON-SMOKING and sorry! - NO PETS

    There is parking for two cars at the door to the chalet. Access to the door is level and there are two shallow steps into the property itself. 

    The chalet provides a comfortable base for family groups. For those who are less mobile, there is a downstairs twin room which is adjacent to the family bathroom. From there, access to the lounge/dining area and kitchen is level. There is level access from the lounge to a balcony.

    The area itself offers something for everyone. Locally there are plenty walks and cycle paths providing access to copious wildlife if you want to leave the car at home. Sandyhills beach is only 1/4 mile away and provides a nice walk along it. We do not recommend it for bathing due to the channels. There are however excellent beaches at Mossyard and Sandgreen which are popular with the locals. Alternatively, there is a full range of activities for children within a short distance. eg Mabie Farm Park, Dalscone farm, Ice Cream Factory, Cocoabean etc. For adults there are gardens nearby including Threave Gardens (National Trust). Kirkcudbright is labelled 'The Artists' Town' and has several art galleries. 

    There is a swimming pool on-site. However, we regret that tenants do NOT have access to this. Please note this to avoid disappointment for any children in your party. There are swimming pools in Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright and a much larger one in Dumfries (DG One).

    For those of a sporting disposition, there are water activities within 30 minutes at Lock Ken. There is also an excellent choice of golf courses for golfers of all standards. Colvend Golf Club is within a 2 minute drive, and can be seen from the chalet. There are also more adventurous sports activities nearby.

    The area offers plenty places to eat out for all types of cuisine and at a cost to suit all purses.

    Food supplies can be obtained at Colvend Shop which is about 3 miles or Dalbeattie which is about 5 miles. About 25 minutes away you will find the best collection of boutique shops in the region in Castle Douglas.

    Merrick is open all year round. Peak season weeks include the Easter school holidays, Whit Bank Holiday, July and August and Christmas and New Year. Other half term holiday weeks are at mid-season rates. The remainder of the year is charged at low season rates.

    Pricing is based on occupancy of up to 4 people. There is a £25 per person per week supplement for each additional person. The cost includes all heat and light and all bed linen. A large towel and a hand towel are supplied for each guest. A small supply of dishwasher tablets is supplied as are dish cloths and dish towels. 2 handsoaps are supplied.

    Public Transport Directions

    Barend Holiday Village is situated on the B793 just off the A710, which is the road between Dumfries and Dalbeattie (Via New Abbey). Generally speaking, access is best by car.

    There is a bus service which stops at Sandyhills Beach on the A710. That is about 1/4 mile from the chalet.

    Alternatively the local bus service to Dalbeattie from either Dumfries or Castle Douglas can drop you in Dalbeattie. From there it is about 5 miles by taxi.
