Please email requests as first choice This delightful cottage makes a superb base for a holiday as it is only 4 miles from Perth yet is peacefully situated in 14 acres of beautiful private grounds of gardens and woodland. It is ideal for those seeking a quiet break.
Moulinalmond Cottage has a very well equipped kitchen in attractive original 19th century features and the sitting room has a welcoming solid fuel stove. The French Windows lead to a suntrap sitting area and courtyard. Two bedrooms are en-suite: one twin, one double. Recently decorated and extremely well furnished, this is a comfortable and charming property which forms a totally separate wing of a large mid 19th century country house.
This is a perfect base for those seeking a romantic break in a beautiful rural setting, yet close to the action of a small city. For walkers, golfers or cyclists it is ideal.
Equally if fauna and flora is of interest you won't find a better base. We have red squirrels, deer, copious birdlife and our own sheep and horses in our fields. You can also see pheasants (including Chalky, a pet albino bird), hedgehogs, buzzards, peregrine falcon, herons, and swifts.
Families also enjoy this cottage, with acres of space for the kids to run around and play.
The grounds are laid out with many fabulous specimen trees (Douglas fir, maples, silver firs, Scots pines, Weymouth pine, larches, sweet chestnuts, oaks, birches, hollies, yews and rowans.) and you have the exclusive use of an enclosed Victorian Garden to relax in, with lawns, rose arches and fruit trees. There are also various flower and shrub beds, and sweeping, extensive lawns.
Two paddocks lie either side of the property with grazing horses, sheep and cattle, while the north end of the grounds provide a wonderful vista up the River Almond with cliffs and woodland on either side.
There is a magnificent beech avenue lining the entrance drive way, which was originally planted nearly 200 yeas ago along the ornamental east drive to the Castle. The giant tree on the lawn is a Pacific silver fir (Abies magnifica). It stands at 42 metres high and 1.5 metres in diameter (one of the biggest trees of its type in the UK).
If you enjoy gardening, walking, or the great outdoors, this is the perfect base for you.
