Welcome to No 9 Galabank - a warm, comfortable one bedroomed cottage with views of the rolling Scottish Border's countryside and with its own back garden giving access to the hills. An ideal base to reach Edinburgh and tour the Borders

Welcome to No9 Galabank, recently renovated to a high standard. This listed 18th century cottage adjoins what was once the old drover's inn at Galabank - now our home (where Robert Burns wrote the first verse of the Braw Lads of Galawater on a window pane). Its position at the north of the Scottish Borders makes it an ideal touring base for all of S.E. Scotland, there is very easy access to Edinburgh 1/2 an hour away by car or a bus stops at the door. It is also very easy to reach the rest of the Scottish borders being centrally placed. The Scottish Borders offer a great variety of things to do and see - walking, cycling, mountain biking, visiting the Border Abbeys, castles and Peel towers, historic and Stately homes, golfing, fishing, horse riding or just relaxing. No 9 is one of the cottages forming the B listed group of buildings called Galabank and has its own parking, front garden, with french doors to the rear garden with decked area, barbeque and a style giving acces to the hills behind. No9 has a fully fitted kitchen with all mod cons. Throughout the ground level is a lovely oak floor. There is central heating throughout plus a woodburning stove in the living space. Locked storage for bikes to the rear
It lies half a mile north of the village of Stow on the A7 and is 25miles south of Edinburgh.
Stow is a very old village located on the Galawater, with St. Mary's Well; the Bishop's Palace; the old pack horse bridge and the old Stow Kirk (15th century) being places of interest.
Stow has a Post Office/genaral store which is open seven days, and the Cloud House cafe/gallery.
Five miles to the east of Stow lies Lauder with Restaurants, pubs, shops and a bank. Here lies too Thirlestane Castle where horse trials are held in August.
10 miles south of Galabank lies Melrose famous for its Abbey and rugby. It has excellent restaurants and shops and lies beside the river Tweed.
To the west of Galabank lie Innerleithen and Peebles with excellent mountain biking and cycling at Glentress.
Edinburgh lies 25miles to the north of Galabank. We are very fortunate to have a half hourly bus service to the centre of Edinburgh and the same returning, with a stop at Galabank - no parking problems. Alternatively there is a park and ride system.
