Overview

Based on the Tarrel Estate it is surrounded by beautiful beaches and many historical attractions. It is approx 1.5 miles from the stunning harbour village of Portmahomack and the Tarbat Discovery Centre. It provides easy access to the most beautiful of Scotland's harbour towns and lies at the heart of the Pictish Trail. It is an excellent base for walking, fishing, cycling and golfers are only a short drive from the Royal Dornoch Golf Course. In addition to oil fuelled central heating there is a multi fuel burning stove and a very well equipped kitchen.

The accommodation is finished to a very high standard and all wooden furniture has been handmade to ensure the highest quality. The upper floor provides 1 twin and 2 double rooms, and amazing views over the farmland to the Dornoch Firth. The large family shower/ bath and wc room is also on the upper floor. All bedrooms on the upper floor have TV/radio/dvd players. The twin room also has a Wii with a variety of games for all ages. The ground floor provides 1 twin room and a shower / wc. The large living room has a multi fuel burning stove and large flat screen TV. From the well equipped kitchen/dining room views over the Dornoch Firth are to be enjoyed. The kitchen has a ceramic hob and 2 electric ovens/grill. There is an integrated fridge, freezer and dishwasher and a wide range of cookware. A high chair, cot and 2 electric inflatable single beds are also available, on request.

A locked garden shed is available to keep bikes, fishing rods or other personal belongings. Tarrel beach its ancient cave and bothy, and the nearby trout lake are both within walking distance.

Portmahomack is considered to be the best harbour on the entire coast north of Burghead, the present harbour was built by Thomas Telford in 1813. The village has an excellent shop/post office, hotel and is home to the renowned, award winning Oyster Catcher restaurant. Tarbet Discovery Centre is a must to visit. Housed in St Colman's Church at the top of the village it tells the story of the Pictish settlement and monastery that was there from the 6th to 9th century. The Pictish trail is well sign posted and offers access to many ancient standing stones.

Tarbet Ness provides a great spot for dolphin watching and the whole area is great place to see birds, for example Manx, Sooty Shearwaters, Arctic, Pomarine and Great Skuas.

Number 4 is an ideal base for touring the Highlands of Scotland, as well as the ancient town of Tain and the beautiful harbour villages of Dornoch, Brora, Golspie, and Helmsdale, there are wonderful routes to the west coast, including Lairg, Bonar Bridge and the Falls of Shin. A drive back from the west through the stunning wilderness of Glen Loth is highly recommended.
