    Our exceptional 4-star graded, 2-bedroomed Park Apartment is within Pilrig House, an A-listed, 17th-century Scottish townhouse (built in 1638), which has a distinguished history and a wonderful literary connection - it was the home of Robert Louis Stevenson's mother's family - as a child, RLS often visited and played in the gardens here as a child - he mentions Pilrig House in his novels: Kidnapped and Catriona.

    Guests have exclusive use of the house's sweeping Palladian staircase entrance, at the top of which are double oak doors and a small seating area, a south-facing suntrap overlooking the park - wonderful for sipping a glass of wine and watching the world drift by at the end of busy days' sightseeing!

    Unique Location
    The apartment is sited in a tranquil park, yet, incredibly, it is only a 15-20 minute stroll (under a mile), or 5 minutes by bus (bus stop is only minutes away from the apartment) to Edinburgh's city centre and all the main attractions. Enjoy the private garden, which offers secluded seating areas and is teeming with wildlife.

    The Accommodation
    The interior is extremely comfortable and has a beautiful mix of antique and modern furnishings, comprising: living-room with oak flooring & Persian rug, real-flame effect fire, designated dining area and recessed window seat with delightful views of the park; 2 bedrooms - 1 single, 1 double (fully carpeted and equipped with hairdryers, alarm clock, adjustable heaters, US adapter plug) - both with park views; a fully-equipped kitchen; and, a luxurious, fully-tiled bathroom with shower screen/shower over the bath, heated towel rail and shaver point.

    Rare for city centre rentals, Pilrig House offers the bonus of a FREE allocated parking space in a safe private car park to the rear of the house.

    Open all year. The apartment is non-smoking, but you are welcome to smoke outside, and, sorry, no pets. We welcome chidlren aged 7 and over. Please see our website for minimum stays each month, rates, availability and booking form.

    For bookings of 7 nights or less, we ask for full payment on booking.
    For bookings exceeding 7 nights, we ask for 50% payment on booking, and 50% 8 weeks in advance of stay.

    Public Transport Directions

    From the nearest information centre:- From the Tourist Information Centre's Princes Street exit, turn right, cross Princes Street at traffic lights and turn left onto Leith Street. You will shortly come to a roundabout - walk straight on passing the Playhouse Theatre and continue. Keep going until you get to Balfour Street - a good 10 minute walk. Go to the foot of Balfour Street, enter Pilrig park. Look straight ahead through the trees - Pilrig House is facing you.

    Getting there by railway:- Edinburgh's main railway station, Waverley, is just a 5 minute taxi ride away from Pilrig House, or you could take a number 11 LRT (Lothian Regional Transport) bus from Princes Street to Pilrig Street then walk to Pilrig House which is only a few minutes' walk away from the bus stop. Other buses go to Leith Walk (close to Pilrig Park) - numbers 7, 10, 12, 14, 16, 22, 25, 49 - from various stops in the city centre. Ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest entrance to Pilrig Park which is at the foot of Balfour Street (off Leith Walk). It will take 5 minutes to walk to the apartment from the bus stop - you will see Pilrig House straight ahead, as soon as you enter the park.

    Getting there by aeroplane:- You can fly direct to Edinburgh from most UK cities including London, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol. Pilrig House Apartment is approximately a 25 minute taxi ride from Edinburgh International Airport. Alternatively take an airport shuttle bus (which run all day long) and get dropped off at the Waverley Bridge terminus. Pilrig House is a 5 minute taxi trip (there is a taxi rank at the site) or a 15 minute walk (see walking directions from TIC). A taxi from Edinburgh Airport directly to Pilrig House will cost in the region of £22 (approx. 12 miles away).
