Getting there by railway:- From Glasgow, Bute is a remarkably accessible island, the mainland rail ferry terminal at Wemyss Bay is a short train journey from Glasgow Central. This is the main destination point from south Britain and various parts of Scotland - from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay terminal takes a mere 30 minutes by car/passenger ferry. For motorists an alternative way to the Isle of Bute is by the attractive scenic route via Loch Lomond (A82) to the village of Colintraive in Argyll. Ferry crossing 5 minutes.

Getting there by aeroplane:- From Glasgow International Airport situated on the M8 motorway south of Glasgow, allows easy access to the island by car/rail/bus via the rail/ferry terminal at Wemyss Bay (45 minutes). This Firth ofClyde crossing to Rothesay terminus takes a mere 30 minutes crossing by car/passenger ferry operating a frequent service daily - alternately Wemyss Bay Ferry Terminal is easily reached by a short train journey from Paisley Station, connected by a designated bus service from Glasgow Airport.

Getting there by ferry:- From the Firth of Clyde ferry crossing at the rail/ferry terminal at Wemyss Bay the journey to Rothesay and the Isle of Bute takes a mere 30 minutes by modern car passenger ferry operating a frequentservice daily - arriving at Rothesay a few steps from the pier takes you to taxi rank, bus terminal and right into the heart of this lovely Victorian town, dominated by its mediaval castle overlookingthe square and bustling harbour.
