Overview

A large, beautifully decorated holiday house on the shores of Loch Long and within 5 minutes’ stroll of Eilean Donan Castle. There are stunning views across to Skye and the Cuillin Range from the front garden and from most of the bedrooms. The top quality accommodation sleeps 12 in 6 bedrooms (3 king-sized doubles, a twin-bedded room, a single room and a family room sleeping up to 4 people).

It’s ideal for groups of friends or family get-togethers with its large richly furnished dining room, perfect for dinner parties.

The front garden overlooks the loch and is a perfect spot to enjoy the sunset, and look out for the resident heron on the loch, the occasional passing seal and even otters playing and feeding in the kelp by the shore. The large, private rear garden boasts a wooden deck with seating and tables for 12 people, perfect for barbecues and alfresco dining.

The house is in the delightful Highland village of Dornie, where three lochs meet, Loch Long, Loch Alsh and Loch Duich and home to the world famous Eilean Donan Castle. Dornie has a traditional pub which has a well-deserved reputation for great food, a hotel, village Post Office & shop and a lovely tea room and gallery. Kyle of Lochalsh and the Skye bridge are just 9 miles away, and it’s a scenic 11 mile drive to picturesque Plockton.

We are ideally placed for walking and climbing, with the Glenshiel Ridge, the Five Sisters of Kintail and the Cuillin Range on Skye all within easy reach. Those who prefer gentler walks have the choice of Highland glens, woodland walks and rambles along the loch. A wealth of other activities are right on your doorstep such as fishing, kayaking, horse riding and mountain biking, all among breathtaking scenery.

Red House Dornie is available for weekly lets, from Saturday to Saturday. And during the winter months we also offer shorter breaks of 3 or 4 days.

We welcome children and provide extra facilities such as a full-size wooden cot, high chair and stair gates. Well-behaved pets are also welcome.

Please note there is strictly no smoking at the house.

Road Directions

From Glasgow take the M8 north west and cross the Esrkine Bridge via the M898. Continue on the A82 to Crianlarich.
Continue on the A82 towards Fort William through Tyndrum.
Go through Fort William towards Spean Bridge and Invergarry.
At Invergarry turn left onto the A87 then at Cluanie Dam turn left continuing on the A87 towards Kyle of Lochalsh & Skye.
Immediately after Eilean Donan Castle turn right into the village of Dornie and when facing the loch turn left, Red House is then straight in front of you!

Public Transport Directions

From the nearest information centre:- From Kyle TIC.
Head out of Kyle on the A87 towards Inverness. Appx 7.5 miles you will cross Loch Long Bridge, turn first left after the bridge, into the village of Dornie. At the bottom of the small hill when facing the loch turn left and Red House Dornie is straight in front of you.

Getting there by railway:- The local railway station is Kyle of Lochalsh.
Cars can be hired from near to the station and also there is a reliable local taxi service.

Getting there by aeroplane:- The nearest airports to Red House Dornie are Inverness (regional) and Glasgow (international).
