Rickla offers secluded luxurious self-catering accommodation surrounded by tranquil farmland, yet is conveniently situated right in the heart of Neolithic Orkney.
The quality of furnishing, decoration and equipment is exceptional. Comfort, ambience, and attention to detail are our priorities.
Rickla can accommodate up to FOUR people, in two super-kingsize bedroom suites, each with its own en-suite shower room and sun lounge. In addition there is a comfortable upstairs lounge and a stunning kitchen/diner.
The windows mainly face south-west, with panoramic views over the fields, lochs and hills of the World Heritage Site. The property is set within over three acres, with private outdoor seating and a meadow and burn to explore.
Rickla's self-catering accommodation has its own separate entrance, ensuring privacy and independence. It is centrally heated with individual radiator thermostats and under-floor heating in the bathrooms.
The upstairs lounge has a wide-screen TV with Sky and a DVD player, but you will probably spend more time gazing out of the windows at the panoramic view of the Ring of Brodgar, the Harray and Stenness lochs, and the Hoy hills. There is also a Sony HiFi sound system, with DAB radio, CD player and Ipod playback, but you may spend more time savouring the silence.
Each of the two bedroom suites can be set up with either a super-king double bed, or two single beds, and both have duvets and electric blankets. The en-suite bedrooms are fully equipped – with radio/alarm, spare bedding, easy chairs and hair dryers, and each also has it's own private TV/sun lounge.
For your privacy, the bedrooms have no shared walls. For your comfort, the shower-rooms have high-pressure showers, heated towel rails and under-floor heating.
The dining area with glass-topped table is at one end of the luxury kitchen. The appliances include an eye-level fan oven, microwave, freezer, dishwasher, washer and tumble drier. The sideboard houses bone china and crystal glassware.
Rickla is non-smoking. The price includes electricity, heating, bed linen and towels. We provide a supply of maps and guide books, and a small library and supply of board games should the Orkney weather disappoint!
Although secluded, Rickla is right in the heart of the Orkney Mainland with Stromness and Kirkwall both less than ten miles away. It really is the perfect holiday location.
From the door there are wonderful walks along quiet lanes to Harray and Wasdale lochs and Binscarth woods. Yet within a five minute drive you can reach:
• Maeshowe Cairn (pre-booking for visits advised)
• The Ring of Brodgar & the Ness of Brodgar
• The Standing Stones of Stenness
• Barnhouse Neolithic Village
• Three hotels serving bar and restaurant meals
• Two Post Offices, two well-stocked general stores, a butcher and petrol pumps
• Fishing on the Harray and Stenness lochs (by arrangement)
