Road Directions

Leave Tourist Information Centre(with Ford Garage in front) and turn LEFT onto Junction Rd.At roundabout(Harbour in front of you)bear LEFT.At next roundabout take 2nd exit.
At next roundabout (filling station)take 2nd exit onto A960 up a slight hill.
*After approx 7 miles,reach FINSTOWN.After another mile TURN RIGHT onto A986 signposted DOUNBY.
%Drive past the 3 houses and the big shed on the left and after ½ mile you come to house with weathervane on roof and a circular greenhouse in garden.Turn sharp LEFT beside this house onto a single track road signposted GRIMESTON.Follow this road to the SECOND bend. At this bend,look for the sign “Rickla” (on a stone) and “Virginia Cottage” and turn sharp LEFT down the track. Go past Virginia Cottage and follow the track to Rickla at the end

Getting there by Aeroplane
Turn RIGHT on leaving Kirkwall airport, signposted Kirkwall.Follow the road into the centre of KIRKWALL.After the Cathedral (on right) take a sharp LEFT.At crossroads (Tourist Information Centre in front, Ford Garage on right) turn RIGHT. At roundabout (Harbour in front of you)bear LEFT. At next roundabout take 2nd exit.At next roundabout(filling station)take 2nd exit onto A960 up a slight hill and then follow the directions above *

Getting There by Ferry
From Northlink ferry in Stromness:
Leaving the ferry,turn RIGHT onto A965 signposted Kirkwall.At 1st roundabout,take 2nd exit.Stay on A965.After approx 7 miles(just BEFORE you get to Finstown),turn LEFT onto A986 signposted DOUNBY. Then follow the directions from the Information Centre %

From Pentland Ferries in St Margaret’s Hope
Leaving the ferry,follow the road along the bay, through the village.At junction with A961,turn LEFT and follow signs KIRKWALL.After 13 miles,pass Highland Park Distillery.Just afterDistillery bear LEFT down a hill and follow past Hospital.At MINI ROUNDABOUT turn LEFT and go past Lidl,Tesco,Co-op.
Then follow the directions from the Information Centre
