    Getting there by aeroplane:- From Benbecula Airport, 20 miles, drive north following directions to Lochmaddy. You will arrive at a junction, at Clachan (a small village) keep to your left and then follow all the signs for Balranand Bird Reserve (large brown sign) this will take you to Hougharry, then Sgeir Ruadh, is the third house on the left.

    Getting there by ferry:- From Lochmaddy ferry, 17 miles, following road to Clachan, then turn right following all the signs to Balranald Bird Reserve, this will take you to Hougharry, Sgeir Ruadh is the third house on the left. From Otternish ferry, 18 miles follow road from ferry, turn left for 13 miles (until you see signs for Balranald Bird Reserve) turn down this road and Sgeir Ruadh is third house on left.
