St. Abbs Haven

Enjoying an unrivalled clifftop position on the Berwickshire Coastal Path, St. Abbs Haven has breathtaking views out to sea and direct access from the front garden to the sheltered, sandy beach of Coldingham Bay.

Converted from a former hotel, this 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, bright, airy house offers luxury accommodation for 5/6 people. Popular with surfers and families alike, the beach is flanked by rock pools and lined with pretty multi-coloured beach huts, making it the perfect spot for a seaside break at any time of year. The pretty, unspoilt fishing village of St. Abbs, (National Marine Reserve) with its harbour and cafes, is just a few minutes walk along the clifftop path and bustles at weekends with divers who come to explore the amazing marine life beneath the towering cliffs nearby. A major landmark along this rugged coastline, St. Abbs Head (National Trust for Scotland) is home to a variety of wildlife, including internationally important seabird colonies; the coastal path to the lighthouse is one of many memorable walks which can be taken from the doorstep. With excellent road and rail links close to this peaceful hideaway, St. Abbs Haven is the perfect base for exploring the castles and beaches of the Northumberland coast to the south, North Berwick/Edinburgh to the north and, inland, the wild beauty of the Cheviots and Lammermuir Hills. Converted from the former St. Abbs Haven Hotel in 2007, the house aims to provide guests with home comforts, warmth and convenience with contemporary style. The principal bedroom has a king size bed and en-suite bathroom with WC/separate shower cubicle; there is one twin bedded room and a single bedroom with underneath pull-out bed. The second, Family Bathroom, has WC and over-bath shower. All bedrooms have sea views.

The ground floor offers bright and spacious open plan living. The sitting room (with gas fire, Freeview TV, DVD and CD players) is separated by glass panelled doors from the kitchen/dining room. The modern, luxury kitchen has granite work tops, double sink, range cooker (gas hob, electric oven), dishwasher, large fridge/freezer, microwave and generous storage. French doors lead from the dining area to a private patio facing the sea, with outside seating and barbecue. The garden area immediately by the house is for private use; the large communal gardens beyond are for use by all residents at St. Abbs Haven.

Also on the ground floor is a Utility Room (Washing Machine and Tumble Drier), and separate WC.

All linen/towels, hot water are provided and the house is centrally heated (gas) throughout.

Two private car parking spaces are provided.

Regrettably pets, with the exception of Guide Dogs, are not allowed. The house is non-smoking.

The nearest shops are in St. Abbs and Coldingham villages; the fishing town of Eyemouth, 4 miles away, offers a broad range of services, while the historic walled border town of Berwick on Tweed (15 minutes by car) has major supermarkets and many other facilities/attractions. There is a good range of cafes and pubs close by, including excellent fish and chips in Eyemouth!

Beyond the immediate attractions of St. Abbs Head and the Coastal Path, Birdwatchers can visit the celebrated North Berwick Seabird Centre or take one of the regular boat trips to the Farne Islands from Seahouses (in season). Local Diving centres offer diving trips (and equipment hire); surfers can also hire equipment locally. Boat trips (fishing and sightseeing) are available from St. Abbs village, and maps are provided in the house for enthusiastic walkers. Golf courses, kayaking on the River Tweed, fishing and horse riding are available nearby. Edinburgh, with its magnificent architecture, museums, shops, restaurants and countless visitor attractions is easily accessible by road or rail for a day visit.

N.B. An apartment is located above the First Floor.
