Road Directions

There are good road links to Wemyss Bay on the West Coast of Scotland. All routes to the Island involve a ferry ride. The main ferry terminal from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay brings you into the centre of Rothesay town. Driving off the ferry to find the St. Ebba you take a left turn at the traffic lights which is sign posted for Kilchattan Bay. You continue on the shore road until you reach 37 Mount Stuart Road, St.Ebba B & B. There is another ferry crossing that brings you to Isle of Bute. This is from Colintraive on the Cowal Peninsula to Rhubodach on Bute. This is only a 5 minute crossing for cars, buses and foot passengers. On reaching Rothesay town follow directions as for main ferry.

Public Transport Directions

From the nearest information centre:- The Discovery Centre, tourist information sits centrally in the town, to the right of the main ferry terminal. To find the St. Ebba from here you take a left turn out of the centre and continue along the shore road past the ferry terminal and harbour area. Continue along the seafront until you reach Mount Stuart Road. St. Ebba B & B is signposted. Number 37 Mount Stuart Road. This will only take 5 minutes by car, 15- 20 minutes by foot

Getting there by railway:- There is a regular train service to Wemyss Bay from Glasgow Central. Various good rail links to Glasgow from all parts of the UK. There are no trains on the Isle of Bute

Getting there by aeroplane:- There is a small unmanned airstrip on the Isle of Bute suitable for small private planes. The major airports for Bute are Glasgow and Prestwick airport which is in south Ayrshire

Getting there by ferry:- The two ferry routes to the Island are provided by Caledonian MacBrayne. There is a very regular service and usually no need to book ahead. Wemyss Bay to Rothesay takes about 30minutes and Colintraive to Rhubodach takes only 5 minutes.
