Straigona is a purpose built Bed and Breakfast located in Tankerness with stunning views over fields to Inganess Bay and the island of Shapinsay. It enjoys the best of both worlds, being semi-rural but only minutes away from the airport and Kirkwall. Our aim is to make your visit to Orkney really special and are happy to help in any way we can.
For keen walkers there are even good walks on the doorstep, one of which takes in Inganess Bay. It is possible to reach many of Orkney’s top attractions easily from Straigona. We are happy to make suggestions for where to visit and make reservations for you if required. Straigona B&B is perfect for touring ‘Mainland’ Orkney. Kirkwall is only 5 miles away and Stromness is 20 miles away.
Ample parking is provided for guests at the front of the house. Straigona is set in a large garden with its own ‘standing stone’ taking centre stage! Plenty of room to stroll around or sit and admire the view or for children to run off excess energy.
Our guest dining room has a fridge with fresh milk for guests to help themselves with and guests are also able to use the fridge for their own foodstuffs. A microwave is provided and guests are welcome to use the dining room at any time for snacks and take aways. Crockery and cutlery can be provided.
We are members of The RSPB and can advise on good bird-watching spots. You may be interested in the this Map of Orkney RSPB Reserves or the RSPB Orkney facebook page .
Local produce is used wherever possible and we make our own jams and marmalades, also our own homebakes are available in the guest dining room for when you are feeling peckish! We can cater for special diets on request. We offer packed lunches by prior arrangement.
Please note that in line with present Scottish legislation smoking is not permitted within Straigona. Smokers are welcome and are able to indulge under the covered porch in inclement weather, we do ask that you dispose of cigarette butts in the bin provided.
We regret we are unable to accept pets as we have our own cat and hens, ducks and guinea fowl to consider.
A selection of fiction, Orkney books, local maps, binoculars and various visitor information is provided on the bookcase just outside the dining room.
Late arrival off the Shetland or Aberdeen ferry is not a problem as long as we know in advance.
