Welcome to Struan House B&B which is located in the northwest of North Uist in the traditional crofting township of Knockintorran. The house sits on the shore of Loch Sandary giving visitors a real insight into island life and its unique wildlfe.
Struan House B&B is a traditional stone building over 120 years old, sitting within a stone walled garden. The house was completely renovated during 2011 and has magnificent views over Loch Sandary and south towards the hills of Benbecula and South Uist.
Guest accommodation is all situated on the ground floor and there is easy access for those with limited mobility. There is a large king-sized bedroom which has views over the garden. The room is bright and airy and is well equipped with hostess tray (including samples of home baking) and lots of visitor information. The large shower room has a walk-in shower and fluffy egyptian towels. Breakfast is served in the kitchen with floor to ceiling windows facing south over the loch. Guests can enjoy home baking and local produce. There is a comfortable lounge with lots of reading materials and Sky tv. There's a multi fuel stove (with our own peat) if the weather turns chilly.
The stone-walled garden and trees provide cover for many species of birds (the count so far is 90- and counting!) You can watch wildlfe from your breakfast table or relax in the garden. There are otters in the loch, corncrakes in the adjoining fields and the beatiful white sandy beaches and unique machair habitat are only a short walk or drive away. The tranquil setting, with a variety of outdoor interests nearby should appeal to walkers, cyclists, anglers and lovers of natural history. Situated only 3 miles from RSPB Balranald Reserve and surrounded by brown trout lochans for the keen angler, we feel a stay at Struan House B&B will really give visitors a chance to see the best of what North Uist has to offer.
Your hosts, Anne and Graeme, willl try to make your stay as relaxing and comfortable as possible. We are on hand to answer your queries, lend you maps and binoculars, suggest places to eat, walk or visit, store your bicycles or dry your wet weather gear.
