Road Directions

By car from Dundee and the South –
Heading east towards Aberdeen along the Kingsway ring road which circles Dundee, take
the left exit into Strathmartine road at the roundabout after you see Tescos on your right.
Keep on this road, after one mile take the second exit at the roundabout, then head out of
Dundee, again taking the second exit at another roundabout next to a new housing
development. Drive straight through a little village called Bridgefoot, then keep on this road,
up the hill, round the bend and continue on through double corners. Further along this road
you will come to a farm road end with a sign for Balkello and The Hideaway Experience.
Turn in here. Drive up the road past three cottages and keep going - the Hideaways are
straight past the farmhouse on your left, on the other side of the farm buildings.
The Lover's Hideaway is the furthest Hideaway from the farm, head straight on along the track.

By car from Aberdeen and the North East -
heading south past Forfar towards Dundee on the A90 dual carriageway, take the turn off to
the right for Tealing and Auchterhouse. Travel through the small village of Tealing. Keep
straight on this road for another two to three miles. Balkello Farm road end is on your right
hand side. You will see a sign for Balkello and The Hideaway. Come up the road past three
cottages and keep going - the Hideaway is straight past the farmhouse on your left, on the
other side of the farm buildings.

By car or bike from Inverness and north Perthshire –
a more scenic route than the dual carriageway and suitable for cyclists. Heading south, turn
off left at the lovely village of Dunkeld. Drive over the bridge and before you come into the
main village turn right following the signs for Caputh and Coupar Angus. (Dunkeld is a great
place to stop for lunch and about an hour maximum from The Hideaway). Keep on this road
driving through the village of Caputh (where Caroline was brought up), Spitalfield and
Meikleour. At Meikleour turn left for Coupar Angus. Keep on this road, you will come to a
crossroads. Drive straight ahead. Keep on this windy and sometimes narrow road for
another three miles. It will come to an end at a T junction. Turn right heading for Coupar
Angus. You will drive over a bridge and up a hill into the town of Coupar Angus. At the mini
roundabout turn left and keep on this road for about 5 miles until you come to the village of
Meigle. In Meigle take a right turn for Dundee (a Spar shop on your right). Keep on this road
out of the village of Meigle, on through the village of Newtyle. After around 3 miles you will
pass Auchterhouse Country Sports on your left. Take the next main road on your left for
Kirkton of Auchterhouse. Drive up the hill towards Kirkton of Auchterhouse village. Take a
right for Tealing in the village, keep on this road for around 2 miles until the road comes to an
end at a T junction. Take a right for Strathmartine, the Hideaway Experience is signposted on
your right about 200 metres from the T junction. Come up the road past three cottages and
keep going - the Hideaway is straight past the farmhouse on your left, on the other side of
the farm buildings.

By bike from Dundee Train Station or the Fife Coastal Path –
if you are cycling from Fife, head west when you come off the Tay Road bridge. When you
come out of the train station you want to walk over the road with your bike then head West
as well along Riverside Drive. You will pass a large Tescos on your right. Keep cycling past
the airport on your left for around 3 miles. You will come to a large roundabout. Go straight
over this roundabout heading towards taking the exit after the main route south option. This
is a windy country road and there is a bit of a hill but quieter than the main ring road round
Dundee. Keep on this road up the hill, at the top of the hill you will take a left for Fowlis, then
immediately take a right for Muirhead. There should be a school on your right as you go up
another small hill. At the junction at the top turn right. Keep on this road, you come into the
village of Muirhead. Passing the police station on your left you come to a junction. Turn right
towards Dundee and cycle through this village of Muirhead and Birkhill. There should be
houses on your left and a village hall followed by a garage on your right. Keep on along this
road and out of the village. Take the next left out of the village, you will cycle through a wood
with a grave yard on your left. Keep on this road straight down the hill. When the road comes
to an end at a T junction, take a right. Keep on this road along a narrow and winding road.
After 2 miles the road comes to an end at another T junction. You should see a sign for
Tealing. Take a left here, follow the road around a bend to your right and keep on this road.
Take a left at the next T junction, again for Tealing. Cycle straight on up the hill after going
round a couple of bad bends. You will see a sign for The Hideaway Experience and Balkello
on your left. Cycle up the farm road and The Hideaways are straight ahead past the farm
buildings.
