The Old School

This self-catering property offers exceptional facilities and a beautiful garden, nestled in the rolling Galloway Hills just five miles from Dumfries.

The Old School House is a detached Victorian former school with four luxury bedrooms, which has been renovated to an exceptionally high standard and extended to form a spacious, light and airy cottage. With all the comforts of home and beautiful views, the house boasts a large, well-appointed kitchen/dining room which is a joy to cook in, with a lovely pillar box red Aga, a Rangemaster range cooker and a sleek side-by-side fridge. The large, comfortable lounge has a wood-burning stove and an impressive entertainment package, including a large-screen LCD TV, DVD, Wi-Fi, CD player and iPod speaker dock.

The master bedroom offers the choice of two single beds or a super king with its own lovely en suite shower room and LCD TV, while the remaining bedrooms, two doubles, one king, offer comfortable beds and wonderful views across the valley.

Open the French windows from the living area to enjoy the courtyard and garden which soaks up the sun's rays in the summer and has elegant furniture, a fish pond, wooden climbing frame, around 3 acres of native woodland and an open fire-pit barbeque. With two burns running through the gardens and wild flowers to enjoy, there is plenty to entertain children or you can just sit back and relax with friends and family.

Although located in a tranquil, rural setting, The Old School is just 5 miles from the historic town of Dumfries and ideally situated for exploring south west and central Scotland. Discover the area's natural heritage and wildlife at the magnificent Galloway Forest Park and uncover stories surrounding local ruined castles and romantic abbeys, such as the 700-year old Sweetheart Abbey.
