Road Directions

The cottage lies on the A77 about halfway between Stranraer and Girvan. Coming from England head for the M6 and follow this until you reach Scotland. Leave the M6 at junction 44 for the A75 (signposted Dumfries and Stranraer). Follow the A75 to Stranraer; around the Town of Dumfries there are a number of roundabouts, always take the exit signposted A75 Stranraer. Dumfries to Stranraer is approximately 73 miles. About 1 mile after the village of Castle Kennedy (about 70 miles from Dumfries) turn right onto the A751. Follow this for about a mile and at the T-junction with the A77 turn right heading for Cairn Ryan and Ayr. Follow the A77 to Ballantrae (about 15 miles). The cottage will be on your left hand side halfway between the Church and the Kings Arms.

Public Transport Directions

From the nearest information centre:- From the Tourist Information centre at Ayr head south for Stranraer and the A77. From Sandgate in Ayr you are on the A719, stay on this road looking for the A79 (signposted Maybole, Girvan and Stranraer). Stay on the A79 heading for the A77; at the T junction between the A79 and the A77 turn right heading for Stranraer. Stay on the A77 heading for Stranraer passing through Maybole, Turnberry and Girvan. The A77 goes through Girvan so stay with the A77 looking for Stranraer; as you leave Girvan you meet a roundabout with a representation of a trawler - the 'Whit's your hurry' roundabout. Take the third exit here (again the A77 heading for Stranraer); Ballantrae is some 12 miles from this roundabout. The cottage will be on your right hand side between the Kings Arms and the Church.

Getting there by railway:- The nearest mainline station is Glasgow Queen Street. There are a number of car hire firms near this station. Head west along the A804 for the M8 West and the M77. Join the M8 signposted Greenock/Glasgow Airport (about 1 mile from the city centre) and follow this for some 2 miles. Leave the M8 at junction 22 for the M77 motorway. After some 16 miles this becomes the A77. Take the A77 heading towards Stranraer passing around Ayr, through Maybole, Turnberry and Girvan. Drive through Girvan and at the first roundabout turn left on to the first exit and then right (3rd exit) of the second roundabout (Whit's your Hurry) staying with the A77. Ballantrae is some 12 miles along the A77 from this roundabout and the cottage will be on your right hand side between the Kings Arms and the Church.

Getting there by aeroplane:- From Prestwick Airport Ballantrae is some 37 miles south. Leaving the Airport head for the A79 signposted Ayr, Prestwick. This will take you through the town of Ayr (about 3 miles from Prestwick). Stay with the A79 heading south for the A77 (Stranraer, Maybole, Girvan). The A79 meets the A77 about 2 miles further on; here turn right on to the A77 heading for Stranraer, Maybole. Stay with the A77 through Maybole. Turnberry and Girvan. The A77 passes through the centre of Girvan so drive through the main shopping area turning left at the first exit of the first roundabout and then right (3rd exit) of the second roundabout (Whit's your Hurry) staying with the A77. Ballantrae is some 12 miles along the A77 and the cottage will be on your right hand side between the Kings Arms and the Church.

Getting there by ferry:- On leaving the CairnRyan Ferry terminal turn left onto the A77 heading for Girvan and Ayr. Ballantrae is some 12 miles along the A77 and the cottage will be on your left hand side half way between the Church and the Kings Arms.
