The Old St Nicholas Manse

Self Catering

The Old St Nicholas Manse, Holm, Orkney, Orkney, KW17 2SD

Housing two comfortable apartments which are located on the third floor of this grand historic building, is the Old St. Nicholas Manse.

Situated on Orkney's east mainland the Manse, which was rebuilt in 1803 for the incoming parish minister, is the most commanding building in East Holm.  The large walled private garden stretching to an acre is enclosed by a dry stone dyke and is a stunning and peaceful spot for enjoying the long summer days.

The Manse benefits from uninterrupted views of the south isles and Holm Sound to the south and Hoy and Scapa Flow to the west. It sits amongst rolling farmland yet is close to the shore which is home to a seal colony.  The birdlife is abundant too as the area is the first port of call for migrating species.  The apartments are cosy and comfortable and ideal for a couple or small family and a great place to stay for a really relaxing break.

Although you are in a peaceful rural setting, the Manse is the perfect base for an Orcadian holiday, just an 8 mile drive to Kirkwall.  Here there is the magnificent St. Magnus Cathedral and the Earls and Bishops Palace to visit plus amazing shopping in the many independent shops and boutiques.  Further afield, a scenic 45 minute drive will take you to the heart of the west mainland and Neolithic Orkney where you will discover Skara Brae, the Ring of Brodgar and Maeshowe.

Closer to home in East Holm there is also plenty to see and do:  shore and headland walks in all directions from the Manse, Minehowe, the Prisoner of War built Italian Chapel, the Churchill Barriers and Tomb of the Eagles.  Try a dive if you are feeling adventurous and if after a busy day you fancy a break from self catering there is also the choice of two local eateries serving up some tasty meals using local produce or for a special treat head to the award winning Creel restaurant in St Margarets Hope.

A second flat is also available - Flat 1.

The flats are up 2 flights of internal stairs. Once inside there is an entrance hall. The bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and dining/living room are accessed from the entrance hall. The layout of each flat is slightly different.
Double sofa available available - extra charge £15 per person
